Employment Status: **Permanent Full time** Union: **CUPE 855 Outside** Open To: **Internal/External Applicant(s)** Closing Date: **13/02/2025** Duration (if temporary): **N/A** Job Title Turf and Sports Field Specialist Wage $26.97 - $29.17 (2025) Reports To Supervisor, Capital and Special Projects Department Community Services Location Lindsay, On Hours 40 hours per week Other Hours include days, evenings and weekends **Specific to this role:** + Maintain sports field facilities and turf grass by performing a range of maintenance and operational activities including grass cutting, turf care, irrigation systems, sports field lining, and ball diamond maintenance + Monitor and assess turf conditions and provide recommendations to management for supplementary work required + Operate various equipment such as aerators, mowers, top dressers, overseeders, and loader tractors as required + Work with team members and supervisors to ensure compliance with maintenance standards and public safety + Plan and organize materials, supplies and equipment required to carry out job tasks + Apply pesticides as directed, keeping detailed records to comply with regulations, and make recommendations for necessary turf care programs + Work with contractors and suppliers, as required, and maintain records for project planning and field work + Perform seasonal opening and shutdown procedures for amenities such as irrigation systems, splash pads, and washroom facilities + Participate in winter control operations such as sanding and plowing, using assigned equipment **As a member of the professional team:** + Administer procedures and recommend solutions to challenges or process improvements + Complete continuous research and analysis of industry trends and issues to make recommendations to management and remain current in area of specialty + Respond to customer service concerns, investigating, problem solving and responding within defined processes and advancing to the attention of the manager and/or supervisor, as appropriate + Work collaboratively with others to deliver the outcomes as defined; report any challenges to the manager and/or supervisor + Maintain documentation, databases and corporate records in accordance with policy and divisional practice; consider legislative municipal requirements such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) + Provide data to allow reporting and decision making + Procure services and goods as authorized by the manager and/or supervisor + Perform other related duties as assigned **Qualifications:** + Post-secondary diploma in Turf Management, Horticulture or a related field + Minimum two (2) years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment + Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence with acceptable driving record + Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Landscape Exterminators and Industrial Vegetation Licenses + Integrated Pest Management (IPM) certification + Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, relevant regulations, safe work practices and City policies and procedures related to park operations + Demonstrated knowledge of turf operations and procedures, including grass types/varieties, plant growth requirements and pest/disease identification and control measures + Experience with winter control operations including plowing and salting + Willingness to complete Irrigation Technician workshop and Sports Turf Maintenance course + Possession of First Aid/CPR certificate or ability to obtain + Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines with minimal supervision + Possess and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and personal attributes as described in the key performance competencies outlined below + Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, audio/video conferencing, the internet and any other related software Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required We appreciate the interest of all applicants; however only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
