This role in summary

Currently, Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a U.S. Income Tax Manager position to join our Tax Department at our Global Headquarters in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The Whirlpool Corporation Tax Department is a dynamic, high-energy, fast-paced environment that will develop and challenge even the most sophisticated tax professionals.

 

This role will be responsible for working across our finance organization, overseeing complex tax matters, and partnering with our business leaders to provide tax guidance on Whirlpool’s strategic initiatives.  U.S. federal and state income tax compliance is outsourced, so while this position will manage that outsourced process, the primary focus of this role will be active engagement with tax planning and risk mitigation strategies, aligning Whirlpool’s tax profile with its business objectives.

 

Your responsibilities will include Assist the VP of Tax and Tax Directors with developing and monitoring Whirlpool’s current and prior tax planning strategies, ensuring that the current and future U.S. income tax consequences of such strategies are captured accuratelyPartner with regional Tax Directors to monitor, evaluate, and escalate potential U.S. tax consequences of local tax positionsPartner with members of Whirlpool’s Corporate Strategy team to provide tax guidance on key strategic initiatives such as M&A, Divestitures, and similar initiativesProactively partner with peers across Whirlpool Finance to ensure effective implementation of tax planning strategies and tax risk mitigation effortsSupport global tax accounting and tax compliance leads as requiredMonitor all material U.S. income tax positions and strategies that impact Whirlpool’s U.S. income tax profileReview and evaluate tax planning strategies with Whirlpool’s global tax professionals and finance leadersProactively identify and assess potential tax planning strategiesMaintain a consistent, active leadership position in the company’s global finance leadership organization, staying close to strategic developmentsEnsure that the company meets all of its tax reporting obligations, partnering with other finance functions to gather and analyze the information requiredManage external service providers to ensure that outsourced projects are completed timely and accuratelyManage the federal and state compliance tax teams to ensure projects are completed timely and accurately while also providing development opportunities to build the next generation of tax leadersDevelop a replacement for your role within 1-3 yearsActively develop junior tax professionalsAssess the ETR and cash tax impact of proposed tax legislation on U.S. income tax positionEnsure adequate documentation of tax attributes related to foreign operationsMinimum requirements Bachelor’s Degree8+ years of experience as a tax professional at a global tax consulting firm OR 5+ years of direct experience in a U.S. federal income tax compliance process with one or more U.S.-headquartered multinational companiesPreferred skills and experiences Masters Degree in AccountancyProven ability to design, lead, and implement U.S. tax planning strategiesCapability to assess tax risk and identify issues that require escalationExceptional ability to work across functional areas, build consensus, and foster teamworkStrong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple competing projectsAbility to represent the tax department in internal meetings and provide specific tax technical guidance to non-tax working groupsVision and presence to represent the tax department in dealings with external service providersExceptional communication and presentation skillsStrong management presence; capable of running a meeting alone and driving projects forward positivelyAbility to build and develop a team
