The Telecommunications Lineworker 1 is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and transfer of overhead telecommunications infrastructure on utility poles and aerial spans. This role involves working closely with a senior level lineworker to gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical and operational responsibilities associated with telecommunications line work. Work assignments involve safely climbing utility poles to install and maintain telecommunications infrastructure, operating a variety of tools and equipment for varying assignments, and interpreting blueprints and engineering work orders to effectively guide installations and repairs. This role supports the expansion and maintenance of telecommunications networks. The Telecommunications Lineworker 1 is an individual contributor role, working in a field environment.
Job Duties● Work closely with a senior level lineworker to understand the technical and operational responsibilities involved in telecommunications line work.
● Install, maintain, and transfer overhead telecommunications infrastructure, including cables, wires, and other equipment on utility poles and aerial spans.
● Inspect utility poles using pole prod and sound test methods.
● Test utility poles for foreign voltage.
● Operate various tools and equipment safely, including bucket trucks, hand tools, power tools, ladders, signal level meters, voltmeters, and specialized test equipment.
● Safely climb utility poles using gaffs and other climbing gear as necessary.
● Top utility poles as needed, using power tools.
● Read and interpret blueprints, engineering work orders, and other technical documents to guide installation and repairs.
● Complete weekly as-built blueprints.
● Utilize technology, such as iPads, cameras, and GIS software, for accurate data collection and field documentation.
● Adhere to industry standards and local, state, and federal regulations, including familiarity with NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) codes to identify violations.
● Set up and clean up job sites, ensuring equipment is loaded, secured, transported, and unloaded safely.
● Perform restoration work on the site after project completion, maintaining area integrity.
● Conduct regular equipment inspections and ensure all construction equipment is used safely in diverse environments (urban and rural).
● Set up safe work zones, including DOT-compliant traffic zones, to ensure the safety of crew members and the public.
● Professionally interact with landowners to ensure clear communication and understanding of site activities.
● Conduct oneself professionally in public settings while representing Davey Resource Group.
● Ensure the proper care and maintenance of any vehicle and equipment assigned including regular inspections, maintenance checks, and prompt reporting of any issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.
● React safely and appropriately in emergency situations.
● Report and respond timely and accurately to the supervisor.
● Participate in employee and professional training events as assigned.
● Travel (100%) for on-site job duty training, projects, or meetings.
● Perform other related duties as assigned.
● Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.
● Required: One year of experience in fiber construction or successful completion of a telecommunications lineworker training program
● Required: Basic knowledge of the telecommunications industry and fiber optics, including knowledge of standard practices and industry best methods.
● Required: Must be at least 21 years of age.
● Required: Valid driver’s license along with a clean Motor Vehicle Report. Must pass the Davey Driver’s Safety Course
● Required: Must be comfortable climbing utility poles and working at heights of 20 plus feet.
● Required: Ability to obtain a DOT medical card by completing a DOT physical examination and passing a drug test.
● Required: Ability to use electronic devices and technological tools in the field, including iPads, cameras, and GIS software. Ability to use maps and navigation tools.
● Required: Effectively and clearly communicate in a one-on-one or group setting.
● Required: Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions while operating safely accurately and efficiently.
● Required: Must be willing to obtain and maintain professional certificates and licenses commensurate with project requirements.
● Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
● Preferred: CDL Class A driver's license
● Preferred: Electric hazard identification, electric equipment identification, or communication equipment identification capability.
● Preferred: OSHA 1910.268 qualified training is preferred but will be provided as required by the project.
