UAP Manager

Directly Reports To: Plant Manager 
Position Summary: 
The role of an Autonomous Production Unit (UAP) Manager is to manage the effective  operation of the UAP Team, as well as HR issues for team members.
Responsibilities:
• Line manager of several supervisors.
• When relevant, line manager of support functions (quality, maintenance, continuous improvement, etc…) (support functions in the UAP are in limited number, and report  functionally to the support function at plant level)
• Reports directly to Plant Manager and is a member of the Plant Management  Committee
• Appoint Deputy to represent during absence. QCDP Performance
• Make sure QCD indicators reflect customer expectations
• Commits to targets agreed during PIC/PDP process (Direct Labour headcount, shift organization, overtime, delivery schedules, pph…)
• Define, for each supervisor, QCDP targets (improvement versus actual situation): ppm, pph, TRS, absenteeism, number of accidents, improvement ideas…
• Monitor results on a shift basis and report accurate data daily and especially during the plant management Top 5
• Manage resources to reach results: adapt headcount to volume (number of people, number of shifts), optimize equipment usage (TRS)
• React in case of a problem: take care of immediate containment, call support functions if necessary, and build corrective action plans…
• Drive actions for improvement: 
o Know team problems, seek feedbacks
o Define area for performance improvements
o Drive teamwork and problem-solving activities, lead Problem Solving Groups 
(QRCI) and workshops (5S, Hoshin, TPM, SMED, 7 Quality Basics…)
o Optimize UAP lay-out and material flow
o Drive improvement ideas process 
• Build and meet the UAP budgeted manufacturing costs, report them monthly
• Ensure manufacturing readiness for new products launched in UAP (line preparation, team training, target definition, specs fine tuning…)
• Participate to early steps in new product launches
• Define threshold and escalation of reaction modes to problems within his UAP

People Management 
Leading by example in terms of rigor and discipline: 
• Assure daily management
o Close management of production through presence on the shop floor (50% of time 
attendance approx.) and daily management of the supervisors
o Strict control of headcount on a daily basis 
o Coach supervisors in how to perform their role
o Support and help to solve problems
o Coordinate activities of support functions (problem solving, continuous improvement)
o Ensure discipline and rigor (work wear, break times, working hours…)
o Ensure the respect of HSE instructions, policies and procedures
• Development of the team
o Coach Supervisors on how to better solve problems and how to devote 70% of their time to improvement actions
o Define staffing needs for UAP
o Participate to selection and recruitment of staff
o Ensure proper induction of newcomers
o Define training plan to increase team autonomy; ensure training and coaching of team members
o Manage annual performance interviews for all direct reports
o Plan development of the people (validation and support from Plant Manager and Human Resources Manager when appropriate): training, job evolution
o Define the UAP strategy in term of polyvalence and poly-competence
o Ensure recognition upon individual performance: propose promotion and merit increase; take part of the decision process 
o Ensure proper flow of information to and from direct reports: top 5, regular information meetings, rapid cascade of critical information and of messages from management. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
• Ensure full respect of HSE rules and regulations
• Drive HSE process within UAP
• Drive improvement of working conditions and ergonomics within UAP
• Ensure members in assigned area(s) of responsibility conform to relevant EMS requirements.
• Support environmental programs to achieve objectives and targets.
• Support commitments established in the ISO 14001/45001 Environmental Policy and HSE PoliciesTeamwork
• Ensure transparent timely communication with plant manager and other UAP managers
• Participate to the continuous improvement of Plant performance
• Ensure monthly information meeting within the UAP Other

Position Specifications
Authorities:
• Issue disciplinary actions to operators/GAP Leaders based on company rules and 
policies; including, but not limited to suspend employees.
• Stop the line to protect operators and customers from potential harm or quality issues 
• Make independent quality calls (i.e. absence of Quality Mgr. or QE) 
• Set schedules based on customer demands; including but not limited to run overtime.
• Implement rewards and recognition based on performance. (any financial 
recognition should be first approved by Controller)
• Manage Manufacturing Cost Budget.
• Drive process improvement for equipment.
• Ensure the Environmental l Health and Safety (HSE) management system Authority & 
Responsibility Matrix is followed according to role in organization.


Knowledge / Skills:
• Operational knowledge of production methods (Kanban, 5S, Hoshin, TPM…)
• Strong sense of teamwork 
• Strong communication skills
• Proven track record in upholding safety and quality standards


Education / Experience:
• Preferably a Master’s degree in engineering with specialization in Production 
• At least 10-12 years of production experience 
• 3-5 years of team management
• Proficient level of English
