Position description The UCLA Music Department in the Herb Alpert School of Music invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track professorial position, starting the 2025-26 academic year. A minimum of a Master's degree in cello performance or five years of equivalent professional experience is required; however, a DMA degree in cello performance and/or significant professional experience in pedagogy and performance is preferred. The salary range for this position is $78,200 - $205,400. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. The Music Department is seeking a distinguished individual with an international reputation in performance and teaching, comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of repertoire, as well as demonstrated initiative in innovative projects. Duties include but are not limited to: teaching a studio of undergraduate and graduate cello majors, coaching chamber music, teaching graduate seminars for performance majors, sharing governing responsibilities in the string area, chairing and overseeing DMA cello student dissertations, serving on other DMA dissertation committees, collaborating with instrumental, vocal, and composition faculty; and contributing to departmental/university service, outreach and diversity.
