Job Overview:
The Ultrasound Technologist performs quality diagnostic sonographic exams and vascular studies on all patient populations of the hospital. Ultrasound exams are done in the ultrasound department, portably throughout the facility, and in the OR. The Ultrasound Technologist will also lift, assist and transport patients, and perform data entry for exam tracking and patient charging.

Shift working, 8:00am-4:30pm or 4:30pm-12amFill-in coverage role for weekends or weekdays, day or evening shifts, as needed. Potential for on-call if qualified and live close enough to respond. On-call is not a requirement.Per DiemEssential Functions:
Demonstrates working knowledge of exam protocols including prep, positioning, safety, technique, processing and image labelingOperates Ultrasound equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Keeps room and equipment clean and in good order. Reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisorProduces high quality images including proper positioning, markers, technique and image qualityPerforms necessary QA and record keeping functions routinely or as assignedUtilizes PACS and enters accurately identified and labeled images of patients. Retrieves old images and films, when necessarySupervises ultrasound students and performs evaluations, when necessaryEffectively communicates exam instructions to patients, answers questions and allays anxiety. Uses translation system when neededTransports patients from holding area to exam rooms. Transports patients to and/or from ER, when necessary. Assists with transport of patient from unit to and from Radiology departmentOperates equipment is surgical suite. Observes sterile precautions. Anticipates needs of surgeonEvaluates patient for exam by review of chart and previous diagnostic exams. Consults with radiologist to determine correct exam protocol if uncertainTracks status of exams to completion using RIS.
