Position Summary:

Performs diagnostic medical sonograms at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomy measurements and abnormal or suspicious anatomy; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision.       

Duties:

Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.Perform a variety of diagnostic sonograms to include but not limited to Abdomen- Aorta, right upper quadrant, renal, renal doppler, OB GYN- first, second, and third trimester fetal examinations, pelvis- trans abdominal and transvaginal. Small parts- thyroid, extremity, scrotum, and breast. Pediatrics- pylorus, spine, hips. Procedures- Biopsies of thyroid, liver, lymph nodes, renal, aspirations, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.Perform standard diagnostic sonogram procedures as required by physician’s order.Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.Completion of exam in hospital information system.Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.

Qualifications:

Education:     

Completion of a Medical Sonography program.

Experience:

At least one (1) year Sonography experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

ARDMS certified or eligibleNon-registered sonographers must successfully complete the ARDMS registry within 24 months of hire date. American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case-by-case basis).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
