Job Summary (Purpose and Function): 

The Community Health Delivery System at the University of Miami seeks a Hematologist Oncologist position to anchor a satellite facility in Miami-Dade County for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. 

 

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center brings together some of the most distinguished and talented physician-scientists and clinical researchers in America. All clinical disciplines are represented by nationally recognized leaders in their respective disciplines. All work together in a series of coherently organized research groups, clinical interdisciplinary venues and coordinated educational activities. The individual will also serve as a voluntary faculty member in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, with focus on the care and treatment of oncology patients. This can include outpatient care as well as inpatient attending responsibilities for the division (on oncologic inpatient units and/or consult services at UMHC, UMH and/or Jackson Memorial Hospital).  

 

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: 

 

New oncology outpatient consults  

Maintain privileges at assigned hospital(s) rotating with colleagues performing Hematology/Oncology consultations and inpatient care 

Design and manage patient treatment protocols based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care 

Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests and intervenes accordingly. 

Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for patients. 

Ensure coordination of additional sub-specialty care (as needed) - advises collaborating physician of appropriate information regarding patient care and reports to the physician the actions provided to the patients. 

Responds to medical and oncologic emergencies in CTU/clinics 

Perform bone marrow biopsies and other procedures as needed. 

Actively participant in the Department of Medicine and the Division of Medical Oncology by attending Divisional meetings, tumor board, and Department of Medicine Grand Rounds during your administrative time

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements): 

State of Florida Medical License 

Board Certified in Oncology  

Minimum of two years in Hematology/Oncology experience
