Job Summary

The Security Officer provides internal and external safety, security functions to support the general safety of the hospital community.  These functions include but are not limited to; making periodic rounds checking for evidence of fire, safety hazards, deterrence of illegal activities and participation in investigations and assisting Law enforcement with arrests when warranted. Officers will be assigned a patrol area and respond to routine and/or emergency calls for assistance.

Job Functions

Patrol and monitor activities in and around the facilities and associated owned or leased properties within their jurisdiction.  Maintain a protective services presence while being on alert for criminal activity and/or the need for assistance. Provides protective services for the assigned facility. Assisting stranded motorist with minor automobile problems. Assists visitors as needed.Responds to calls for assistance and emergencies. Takes appropriate control of dangerous situations by using sound judgement and quick thinking. Subdue and /or restrain any individual whose behavior warrants physical intervention including patients, while using the appropriate crisis intervention methods and complying with policies related to patient restraint, and seclusion and Response to Resistance / Use of Force.  Performs BLS as needed and responds to emergency and disaster situations and carry out duties as assigned in the Emergency Operations Plan.Conducts preliminary investigations in hospital related incidents.  Works closely with local law enforcement agencies when the need arises, Maintains accurate records of daily activities. Reports all unusual incidents and criminal activity on incident reports. Takes reports of vehicular accidents, criminal offenses and suspicious activity occurring on hospital property.Maintains the facility's lost and found. Secures valuable property to ensure that it is not lost, tampered with, or stolen. May be required to transport money to and from designated bank. Morgue pickups and release to Funeral Homes and Coroner. Assist with the air ambulance landing.Other duties assigned by the protective services management and supervision team

Required Minimum Education: High school diploma GED

Preferred Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree

Licensure/Certification Required: BLS and NAPPI training within 6 months of hire

Licensure/Certification Preferred: IAHSS Basic Certification/OPOTA Certification

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 2-3 years of military/Law enforcement/security

Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: OPOTA Certification. Some law enforcement/military and or protective services experience.
