Unbound Communications Coordinator

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Online Program Design and Operations, the Unbound Communications Coordinator serves at the forefront of developing an engaging community for the Montclair State University Unbound students. Montclair Unbound is an initiative designed to offer flexibility and autonomy to students pursuing their educational goals with online and mixed modality programs. This role is responsible for designing and implementing initiatives to enhance student engagement, support academic success, and promote a sense of belonging among Unbound students.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement strategies to cultivate a strong sense of community among Unbound students, fostering connections and relationships through virtual platforms and hybrid events.

Create outreach communication plans and newsletters for Unbound students.

Work collaboratively with the Unbound Academic Success team to help assist with student inquiries and questions.

Lead the planning of online student orientations.

Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging events and activities tailored to the unique needs and interests of Unbound students and prospective students, including workshops, social gatherings, and networking opportunities.

Serve as the primary point of contact for Unbound students and Montclair stakeholders. Help coordinate meetings and outreach with faculty, staff, and students. Attend and participate in meetings and events as needed.

Maintain accurate records of student engagement, participation, and outcomes, utilizing data to assess program effectiveness and inform future initiatives.

Advocate for the needs and interests of Unbound students within the institution, advocating for resources, services, and policies that support their success and well-being.

Monitors the work of Unbound student employees; identifies problem areas and takes steps necessary to effect improvement.

Provides access to and/or develops and conducts training, workshops, and/or seminars for students, faculty and staff related to online student engagement.

Stay informed about best practices in student engagement, online learning, and student support services, actively seeking opportunities for professional development and growth.  

Create informative materials for online learning through social media and related channels.

Develop appropriate methods for meeting goals and objectives.

Assist in the designing and implementation of improved methods of communication as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.

Minimum 3 year of professional experience in communications or a related field.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent data analysis and reporting skills.

Knowledge of online education platforms and technology

PREFERRED:

Master’s degree from an accredited College or University in a related field.

Understanding of student development theory and academic coaching best practices.

Experience working in higher education, student affairs, or a related field, with a focus on student engagement and support.
