Learn more about what we do in Houston here (https://corporate.exxonmobil.com/locations/united-states/houston-campus) **.** **Primary Job Functions** Characterize and predict porosity, permeability, fluid, and geomechanical properties in fine grained sedimentary rocks to support business decisions that contribute to optimizing unconventional play developments and assessments by ExxonMobil. **Job Role Responsibilities:** + Generate unconventional reservoir quality models in stratigraphic volumes in data dense regions to predict likely distributions of unconventional reservoir quality in data poor regions + Document how geologic controls (sediment composition, texture, fabric, burial/thermal history, and fluid compositions) impact unconventional reservoir quality in target intervals + Contribute to RQ data-collection programs in both existing and frontier plays + Provide rock-property measurements and predictions within a regional geologic context to underpin geophysical, geomechanical and seismic interpretations. + Be a resource and mentor for geologists working in the individual business units **About you** **Required Skills and Experience:** Proven ability to: + generate stratigraphic models in sedimentary successions dominated by fine grained sedimentary rocks + have worked with routine and special core analyses methods, (e.g. MICP, GRI) + have used techniques to generate whole rock and fluid compositional data from these materials (e.g. XRD, XRF, RockEval, Leco, pyrolysis, etc.) + have used optical and electron optical methods (e.g., Energy Dispersive Spectrometry, Secondary Electron imagery, Backscattered Electron imagery) to characterize the pore to bed-scale compositional and textural variability in these fine-grained materials + work with standard wireline petrophysical data (e.g., g-ray, NPHI, density, sonic and resistivity logs) to characterize the unconventional RQ properties of fine-grained sedimentary intervals + use geomechanical testing methods (e.g. Brazil test, Tri-axial test) to evaluate the fracture properties of target intervals + communicate and teach And then integrate data from these techniques to produce: + sedimentological models that use an appreciation of the fundamental physicochemical and biochemical process that impacted these rocks during deposition and burial to predict likely controls on RQ distributions in stratigraphic volumes + models that honor the regional stratigraphy + that inform porosity and geomechanical properties in stratigraphic volumes + consider how burial/thermal history might impact pore pressures in the sub-surface of these intervals **Valuable Skills and Experience:** + Identifying, mapping, and quantifying paleo sediment supply systems in sedimentary sucessions dominated by fine grained materials. + Evaluating how varying clastic inputs to basins, production within basins, diagenetic modification both pre-and post-compaction interact to produce rocks with varying unconventional reservoir, source, and seal properties + Demonstrated effectiveness in report writing, teaching, and mentoring. + Ability to use any of the following software: ArcGIS, Petrel, Petra, Touchstone, Spotfire, Image J. Paleoscan, etc. + Broad industry network with other Reservoir Quality professionals. **Job Requirements** + MA/MS and/or PhD in Geology (or related fields). + 10+ years experience in a relevant industry or academic position + Candidates should have a strong fundamental background in the earth sciences with an emphasis on sedimentology/stratigraphy, physical sciences, and mathematics (including statistics). + Demonstrated leadership, adaptability, teamwork, excellent communication skills in English, and a commitment to high safety and ethical standards. + Ability to work effectively within and across diverse team environments. **Benefits** **Your benefits** **An ExxonMobil career is one designed to last.
