Purpose of Role: (Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for an Uncrewed Vehicle Technologist to join our Applications Engineering team. This permanent position based in Esquimalt BC consist in supporting the Uncrewed Vehicle Program (UAV, UUV, USV, and ROV) by maintaining and upgrading vehicles, supporting vehicle trials through at sea and land-based operations, data analysis and report writing. The Technologist will be expected to be able to provide support in Shipboard Equipment Surveys, Equipment Trials, Procedural Writing, and Equipment Maintaining activities. This position includes a combination of workshop (mostly) and shipboard (sometimes) environments with occasional requirements to perform work outside or onboard ships and occasional short duration travel to other test locations.

Key Responsibilities:
Operation: Plan, Operate, and provide systems engineering support for Uncrewed Vehicles and other underwater assets; Coordinate resources necessary to prepare and conduct tests and trials;
Trials: Support independent verification and validation trials by operating equipment, recording trial data, and reporting results; Perform analysis on trial data and prepare technical reports;
Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on Uncrewed Vehicles and equipment including mechanical, electronics and software elements;
Technical Evaluation: Perform technical and performance evaluations on underwater acoustic sensors (including acoustic modems, acoustic projectors and SONAR); Research, procure and integrate sensors for Uncrewed Vehicle upgrades;

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Mandatory: Eligible to obtain Government of Canada security clearance, which requires Canadian citizenship and continuous residence in Canada over the last 10 years as a minimum;
Mandatory: College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree applicants from Oceans, Mechanical, Electrical, or Naval Technology fields will be considered (or equivalent from military training);
Desirable: Previous experience with Uncrewed Vehicle (professional or hobby), holder of Transport Canada Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate, Experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Underwater acoustic systems;
Required: Proficient in technical writing in English and ability to communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors and clients; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Desirable: 3D CAD modelling and drafting software preferably SolidWorks
