**Job Description**
The Technical Assistance for Clean Transportation (TACT) group leads technical projects for several federal agencies, including the DOE Vehicle Technologies Office and the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. This internship will support a project to collect data, analyze, and report findings on school buses and transit buses operating in the field, to understand the behavior of advanced technology vehicles in fleets.
Using experimental data captured using onboard data logging devices on vehicles in the field and in the laboratory, the candidate will work with senior staff to investigate the behavior of advanced technology vehicles in fleets across the country. Working with test data, the candidate will help validate and improve existing models and provide analysis support for project objectives. The candidate will work with on-road medium and heavy-duty vehicles that make use of new technologies such as fuel cells, hybrid drivetrains, all-electric drivetrains, autonomous controls, and alternative fuels to enable the accelerated development and deployment of advanced technologies.
Job duties will including helping with data collection efforts at test sites, installing and operating on-board vehicle data acquisition equipment, performing analysis through simulation and modeling, visualizing data, provide support in laboratory test activities of vehicles operated in fleets around the country. Perform analysis on experimental data using existing Matlab based tools/models and Python code. Assist in writing technical reports and case studies as well as presentations.

**Basic Qualifications**
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

**Additional Required Qualifications**
+ Understanding of the Python coding language.
+ Experience with computer programming and application of computer models is necessary. In particular, experience using Microsoft Excel, Python and/or Matlab as numerical analysis tools.
+ Limited use and application of engineering principles, theories and concepts.
+ Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
+ Ability to work both independently and with a team as needed.
**Preferred Qualifications**
The ideal applicant possesses skills in MATLAB, Python and Excel in addition to an understanding of physics/dynamics and analysis of experimental data captured through electronic data acquisition methods. Vehicle testing and instrumentation experience a plus. Knowledge of OBD CAN signals and GPS as well as previous experience with programing raspberry-pi computers is valuable.

**Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)**
Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $43,700 - $69,900
