Job Details:
PurposeSupport research and development activities in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL)
ResponsibilitiesDirect, perform and develop advanced engineering and scientific research projects for a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC).
Process and analyze acoustic data for developing, testing, and evaluating SONAR systems.
Develop and implement research grade software and analysis tools in MATLAB and UNIX shell scripting. Software applications may include novel graphic visualizations, statistical analysis methods, or signal processing applications.
Travel to remote locations to provide support for data collection and processing efforts at sites and at sea.
Prepare and review analysis presentations and technical reports, and presenting results at internal and external meetings. Would include travel to present at external working group meetings, as well as directly to sponsors.
Determine project requirements and desired results, and develop procedures to be used to attain such results and evaluate success/failure in achieving stated goals.
Collaborate with and participate in dynamic, multi-functional teams in support of specific program objectives, which may include advising and overseeing junior staff.
Assist with data transfer processes and ensure compliance with security requirements.
Work on special projects as assigned.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Three or more years of experience with one or more of the following: analysis of acoustic data, signal processing or automation algorithms design, and/or estimating sonar system performance.
Demonstrated proficiency with software design, programing, and analysis using MATLAB.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with a strong commitment to contributing to the program and enabling the entire team.
The position requires attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, good communication skills, and the ability to use time effectively in order to meet deadlines.

Eligibility for access to all levels of classified information authorized by the project sponsor(s) must continue without interruption during employment, including the successful completion of security polygraph examination(s), as required by the sponsor(s).
Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Current or recent eligibility for access to classified information.
Experience with remote field work either at sea or in geophysical applications.
Advanced fluency in MATLAB or Python/SciPy, Linux shell scripting, and version control software
Demonstrated ability using standard software development lifecycle practices
Experience summarizing analysis results in PowerPoint and presenting research results.
Experience documenting analysis results in written reports.
Proven ability to work independently, formulate research questions, and take initiative.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
