Scope

The Commercial Insurance Division is seeking to fill a Production Underwriter position in the Chicago Branch. The primary focus of the position will be underwriting and profitably growing Package, Property, General Liability, Auto, Worker’s Compensation, Umbrella/Excess and niche Financial Institution products/coverages for our Financial Institutions customer base.

 

Responsibilities 

The Production Underwriter will:

Responsible for underwriting and maintaining a ~$7M renewal book as well generating new business per branch plans (~$1.5M). Travel, marketing, pipelining, and prospecting within the Midwest Region, cored in the Chicago office; drive submission activity.  Assigned 3-4 branches within the Midwest region. Focus on Financial Institutions in the middle market sector. Account size range from small (slightly above BOP) to large complex property schedules and/or sizeable payroll.  Maintain, grow and explore relationships with Midwest Region branches, our agent/brokers and clients. Collaborate with assigned underwriter associate, local Financial Institutions team leader, the respective Commercial Insurance Manager, and home office to position their assigned book and territory within Commercial Insurance to meet or exceed business goals of profit, growth, retention, and rate. Maintain high quality standards of service in conjunction with Underwriter Associate. Be the lead on coordination of Loss Control & Claims Service plans for service level accounts. Develop and negotiate price, coverage, and terms and conditions for all new business and renewals and actively identifying account rounding and cross-selling opportunities.  Adhere to authority and underwriting strategies and service standards. Bachelor’s degree2-3 years underwriting experience preferably in the core middle market segment.Confidence to gain a marketplace presence and become a trusted advisor for assigned agents/brokers.Proven track record of building strong relationships with agents and insureds.Ability to work both independently and within a team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately, effectively and efficientlyStrong negotiations, presentation, and public speaking skillsLocal broker and insurance marketplace relationshipsKnowledge and understanding of current insurance marketplace conditionsUnderstanding and adherence to organizational and regulatory rules, and ability to adhere to underwriting authorityUnderstanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, terms and conditions.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as wells as other business related software
