Summary This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development, Asst Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner. Responsibilities As an Underwriter, you will: Review cases to determine problems with underwriting process. As a result of case evaluation and analysis, provide telephone and written guidance and technical assistance to DE Underwriters. At the request of the lender, review and reconsider rating of lender case based on lenders explanation of deficiencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Candidates will be selected for a job assigned to one of the official duty stations listed in this announcement. Failure to report to duty at the location for which the candidate is selected may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal. The duty station for this position will be a home-based worksite or other non-HUD owned space anywhere within HUD's Atlanta HOC Region, which encompasses the states of: Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, South Carolina. Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. Please refer to "Additional Information Section for additional Conditions of Employment." Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Direct Endorsement (DE) Underwriting review and approval or rejection of residential property and residential mortgage appraisals; AND Direct Endorsement (DE) underwriting of borrowers' credit analysis and credit worthiness; AND Evaluating FHA residential property, credit underwriting requirements, applying lending regulations and rendering a credit decision on residential mortgage loan applications. Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
