Underwriter or Senior Underwriter Commercial Insurance (Property & Casualty)

KEY OBJECTIVE:                                                                
As a key member of the commercial underwriting department, this individual is responsible for independently managing a diverse portfolio of Commercial Property & Casualty business with a focus on Retention, Account Rounding, Renewal Change and Profit goals while establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with assigned brokers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                        

Gather and analyze account information and make underwriting recommendations and decisions.  Risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on renewal business. Contribute to differentiated Customer Retention and Sales results.  Develop and maintain strong business relationships with brokers and key clients. Develop customer-centric renewal strategies that align with the Company’s financial goals.  Collaborate with team members and contribute to an engaging work environment.  Handle individual risk inquiries/correspondence from brokers and make appropriate decisions.  Monitor booking, retention, account rounding, and renewal change accuracy.  Contribute to projects to both improve the business and continually develop personal skills.

 

University degree and/or equivalent insurance-related education and experience. 2 to 5 years of property and casualty underwriting experience is required (Commercial experience preferred). Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organization and time management skills. High level of responsiveness and efficiency when working with stakeholders. Demonstrated track record of customer service orientation and proven ability to foster strong business relationships. Ability to work both independently and respond as a team player, in a multi-task environment. High degree of technical knowledge attained in current job. Regional broker relationship management considered an asset. CIP or CRM designation or completed CIP/CRM courses considered to be an asset.


The approximate salary for the role will be positioned between the salary range of $80,000 to $120,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors, including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location, and internal equity. Compensation may exceed the range listed based on the evaluation of skillset and experience.
