Underwriting Consultant
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic **Underwriting Consultant** to join our team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing risks, managing relationships, providing underwriting expertise, and supporting business development efforts. You will also mentor junior staff and contribute to the growth and success of the underwriting department.
License Requirement: Texas P&C license required or must obtain within 6 months of hire
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ **Risk and Exposure Evaluation:** Assess risks and exposures, develop new and renewal business proposals, including premium quotes, loss picks, and exposure-based analysis.
+ **Relationship Management:** Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, carriers, and internal departments. Communicate underwriting decisions, pricing, and coverage effectively.
+ **Captive Underwriting:** Analyze captive structures and pricing models, including excess of aggregate and A Fund/B Fund structures. Understand captive management practices and apply them to underwriting decisions.
+ **Mentorship and Team Leadership:** Mentor and guide junior underwriting staff in complex decisions, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and best practices.
+ **Technical Expertise:** Provide in-depth expertise in property and casualty coverages, develop underwriting rules, and analyze data to improve risk selection and underwriting accuracy.
+ **Business Development and Marketing Support:** Assist in the development of marketing materials and presentations. Support the business development team by providing data, analytics, and risk insights.
+ **Special Projects and KPIs:** Participate in special projects assigned by management, and consistently meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) established by the team.
**Qualifications:**
+ **Education & Experience:** Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. A minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience is required.
+ **Licensure:** Texas Property & Casualty (P&C) license required, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
+ **Technical Skills:** Strong understanding of property and casualty insurance, underwriting principles, and pricing models.
+ **Communication Skills:** Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
+ **Leadership:** Proven ability to mentor and lead a team in a collaborative environment.
+ **Analytical Skills:** Strong data analysis skills with a focus on improving risk selection and underwriting processes.
