Unit Assistant, Operating Room, Part Time
Fairview Range is looking for a Unit Assistant (UA) to join our Surgical Services team in Hibbing, MN. With over 55 physicians, Fairview Range Medical Center has the largest surgical staff on the Iron Range with a variety of surgical services offered in areas such as ENT, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Podiatry, and General Surgery. We are a Level IV trauma center, and perform emergency, inpatient, and outpatient surgeries and procedures. The Unit Assistant (UA) assists in the direct and indirect perioperative patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Additionally, the UA is responsible to decontaminate, clean, assemble and sterilize reusable patient care equipment and instruments; maintains autoclaves and HLD systems; maintenance and ordering of supplies; assists in the turnover of surgical suites; and performing other duties as assigned. Schedule: This position will work 48-64 hours per two weeks. The shift length will be 8-hour day shifts with weekends as needed. Benefits: This position is fully benefit eligible. About this unit: 4 operating rooms 17 Same Day Surgery cubicles 6 recovery room cubicles Average of more than 3000 surgical procedures per year Multidisciplinary care team including Physicians, APPs, CRNAs, RNs, Surgical Techs, Instrument Tech/Unit Assistants Patient population: pediatric to geriatric As an Unit Assistant in the Operating Room you are responsible for: Transporting patients in a safe and courteous manner. Maintaining safe and hygienic patient and surgical environment. Responsible for maintenance of instruments and equipment. Properly cleaning, sorting, and assembling all instruments according to established guidelines. Sterilizing instruments and distributing to appropriate areas. Monitoring inventory stock levels and ordering as needed. Required: High school graduate or equivalent. BLS certification Preferred: Graduation from a nursing assistant program, sterile processing training, or experience working with surgical instruments and hospital equipment. Experience in sterile processing, instrument handling and cleaning, and knowledge of instrument and hospital equipment. Current Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification.
