SUMMARY 

Under the supervision of the Director/Manager or delegate, assists in planning, organizing, implementing evaluating the activities occurring on the nursing unit by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.

STATUS: Per Diem 
LOCATION: Canton Potsdam Hospital 
DEPARTMENT: Medical Surgery Unit 2  
SCHEDULE: Variable shifts 

 

ATTRIBUTES 

Required: High school diploma or equivalent 

Preferred: Medical Terminology 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Performs various clerical duties related to updating and organizing information on the nursing units: 

Establishes and maintains patient records on the unit 

Answers the telephone professionally, directing calls or taking messages 

Stocks units with office supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory 

Faxes and photocopies information as needed 

Obtains supplies as requested by the nursing staff 

Records information on patient charts and medical records, including: 

Physicians' orders and instructions 

Dietary requirements 

Medication information 

Adheres to HIPAA guidelines by accessing PHI in accordance with departmental assignment 

Welcomes visitors, answers inquiries, provides directions, and refers inquiries to nursing and physician staff as needed 
Provides support and necessary information to nurses, providers, and offices 
Arranges discharges and transfers by notifying patient transport services 

Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and adhering to Infection Prevention Policies 

May transport patients in a wheelchair to locations within the facility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE:

$18.09 - $26.26

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
