Position TitleUnit Coordinator - Medical Progressive Care/Cystic FibrosisBell HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:Unit 15 is a tight-knit team that specializes in the care of adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Because we treat patients with a chronic disease, we have the opportunity to personally get to know each of our patients and their families through repeat encounters and supporting them throughout the continuum of care. We provide a high level of autonomy to our patients, and do our best to make their time in the hospital fit their needs while providing the outstanding care the University of Kansas Health System is recognized for. We are an accredited CF Care Center and we work closely with our outpatient pulmonary team in constructing care plans for patients, educational opportunities for staff, and community outreach. While CF is our specialized patient population, we require a broad skill and knowledge base to care for a variety of diagnoses beyond CF on our 18-bed inpatient unit. On Unit 15, the patient and teamwork always come first! Our unit leadership is extremely supportive of professional development and staff driven improvement initiatives. Provides charge nurse responsibilities, including assignments, management of throughput, staffing to matrix, and responding to patient and staff needs. Manages a patient care assignment as indicated by patient care needs. Assists with hiring, education and performance evaluation of the staff. Works with the Nurse Manager and Human Resources in performance management counseling and discipline of staff. Instructs staff and ensures compliance with standards through daily on-going monitoring and performance management. Serves as a role model and mentor for excellence in clinical practice and patient and employee satisfaction. Takes personal responsibility for achieving productivity targets and budget compliance. Has primary involvement and responsibility for unit performance improvement activities and outcomes.
As a condition of your employment and continued employment with the health system, you are required to secure a Nurse Compact License (NCL) within 60 days of your date of hire. This will enable you to perform your job duties not only in Kansas, but other compact states. You will be responsible for any expenses you incur in securing this license, and must provide your manager with evidence of this license before the sixty-day period expires. If you fail to secure the NCL as required, you will be immediately removed from the work schedule and placed on an unpaid administrative leave, until we can understand the reasons for your non-compliance.
