Unit Head Painted Post, NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9620+Dry+Run+Rd+Painted+Post+NY+USA+14870) • The Y at Watson Woods Description $16.50/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Unit Head will manage all functions and staff of specified unit. The Unit Head will organize and develop unit programming for specified age groups. This position will also support the Counselors. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Manage all functions and staff for specified unit. + Organize and develop unit programming for specified age group. Ensure proper programming is being delivered according to YMCA standards. + Assist Team Leaders with camper behavior issues and intervene when necessary. + Support Team Leaders in maintenance of respective shelter, equipment, and supplies. + Compile and submit accurate daily attendance, program reports, incident reports, and other necessary documentation. + Oversee camper behavior management process in unit. + Maintain open communication with parents, this includes email communication, phone calls and face to face communication at drop off/pick up. + Submit weekly schedule, newsletter, and all appropriate documentation as deemed by Camp Director. + Attend, prepare for and deliver weekly staff meetings for specific units, in conjunction with camp staff meeting and under the direction of the camp director + Provide a fun, safe environment and program for all participants. + Familiar with and carry out emergency procedures, building rules and regulations. + Support other units and leadership as needed. + Fill in as ratios require. + Attend all required trainings, meetings, overnights and family nights. + All other duties as assigned. Requirements GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: + At least 21 years of age and two years of college or equivalent work experience. + Possess skills including supervision of staff, organizational, and knowledge of summer camp activities and working with children. + Must have experience and genuine interest in camp and working with children. + Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required; certifications must be valid/current before the first day of staff training and throughout the duration of your seasonal employment. + Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: + Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another. + Ability to visibly observe children. + Ability to stand for an extended period of time. + Ability to demonstrate and lead activities. + Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity + Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
