Position Summary
Serves as a resource to Student Life and Engagement (SLE) administrators and a liaison to central MSU Human Resources to manage and coordinate human resources activities and to interpret and implement human resources policies, procedures, practices, and bargaining agreement language. Oversees and administers the human resources functions pertaining to time and attendance discipline, leaves of absence, and accommodation requests for a large complex administrative unit. Acts as the designated representative for collecting and maintaining criminal background checks for employees working youth summer camp events and managing the event worker and volunteer criminal background check process for MSU athletic events which requires evening and weekend hours.
Position Summary:
+ Assists in labor relations functions including investigations, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
+ Acts as a resource to staff and solves complex problems in administration of HR programs and functions.
+ Advises unit administrators on HR policies, procedures, and bargaining agreement language.
+ Coordinates SLE HR labor relations data, analyzes data, and writes reports.
+ Works collaboratively with MSU HR and other MSU departments (MSU Police) to oversee criminal background check process for youth summer camp events and athletic events as needed.
+ Coordinates operational activities and performs related administrative duties as assigned.
+ Liaises with MSU HR Accommodation Specialist and SLE supervisors to manage accommodation requests.
COMMUNICATIONS – INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Interacts with:
+ Administrators/Supervisor - in order to provide updates, discuss human resource management activities and receive assignments.
+ Unit Faculty and Academic Staff/Support Staff/Managers/Supervisors - in order to provide information and to advise on human resources matters.
+ MSU Human Resources Staff/Union Representatives - in order to discuss disciplinary actions and grievances.
+ Volunteer Groups - in order to complete criminal background checks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard office environment. The job is remote-friendly but does require attendance at sporting and special events during evenings and weekends.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing human resource functions, and human resource/labor relations management and computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience with ICHAT preferred.

Work Hours
Mon-Fri 8AM-5Pm with some evenings and weekends to assist with criminal background checks for MSU athletic events.
