Site Name: USA - Maryland - Rockville Posted Date: Oct 2 2024 GSK is currently looking for a Process Development Upstream Scientist to join our team in Rockville, MD. In this role you’ll be involved in all aspects of the development of cell culture processes for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals including initial process screening, optimization and characterization, validation, scale-up and tech transfer to internal or external manufacturing partners. Key Responsibilities: Perform bench/pilot-scale laboratory experiments to develop, characterize and /or validate cell culture processes for production of biopharmaceuticals Compile, analyze and communicate experimental results Describe experimental results in the form of written reports and presentations Work seamlessly within a team Laboratory duties as required Learn to independently design experiments and understand the rationale for experimental design Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BS/BA Degree in scientific discipline Laboratory experience Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Industrial experience in developing cell culture and microbial fermentation manufacturing processes for the production of biopharmaceuticals, in an internship or Co-op position is preferred. Demonstrated record of scientific achievement and a basic knowledge of cellular physiology and/or general engineering principles pertaining to bioreactors. Highly motivated self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a matrix team environment. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes for biopharmaceuticals. Basic knowledge of statistical science/analysis is highly desired. Hands on experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with cell culture or culturing microbial or animal cells is desired. Hands on experience in process characterization and process development activities and working with small scale bioreactors is recommended but not required. Thorough knowledge of the workings of large-scale bioreactors, especially aspects concerning mass transfer and mixing times is desired. #LI-GSK #Earlycareers The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $69,020 to $93,380 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
