Our client is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to work with a major company in the Oil & Gas industry, located in Richmond, CA, on a 1-year assignment.
Project Overview
As a member of the Richmond Refinery Control Systems Support Team, the Control Systems Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the refinery's process control systems. This role supports digital assets for refinery operations and involves collaboration within a team dedicated to advancing technology systems in a prominent Bay Area location.
Responsibilities:
Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and provide programming and hardware support for Distributed Control Systems (Honeywell TDC3000 and Experion), Safety Shutdown Systems (Triconex, Honeywell FSC), and various PLC applications. Work closely with Operations in Control Rooms to ensure seamless support and system functionality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement systems and solutions for optimizing unit processes, enhancing safety, and improving system reliability. Maintain up-to-date procedures and documentation for control systems. Ensure all compliance requirements are met safely and efficiently. Support the operator training system (OTS) and the DCS/PLC Lifecycle project across the refinery. Perform routine installations and updates, including Honeywell patches for PCN/CSN connected devices. Provide backup media maintenance and contingency recovery procedures. Participate in major turnaround activities and train and mentor fellow Control Systems Engineers (CSEs) as needed.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Chemical), or Information Technology. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in roles such as Control Systems Engineer, Process Control Engineer, Instrumentation & Electrical Technician, Analyzer Technician, PCN Administrator, or similar positions may be considered in place of formal education. Preferred:
Hands-on experience with Honeywell Distributed Control Systems (DCS) in refining, chemical, petrochemical, or other complex processing environments. Ability to manage multiple complex projects with impacts across refinery sites. Demonstrated self-starter with a high degree of ownership, capable of working independently or leading a small team.
