User Experience Designer **Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Redwood City, California, United States** **New** Information Technology Services Post Date 2 days ago Requisition # 105807 Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time **User Experience Designer** to join the User Experience & Design Strategy (UXDS) team in Student and Academic Services. This **six-month, fixed-term, hybrid** (part on-campus and part remote) will join the UXDS team supporting their vision to deliver a consistent, user-centered design strategy for superior user experiences of SAS systems, processes, policies, procedures, and enhancements. Supporting the redesign and development of the My Academic Progress (MAP) project will be the primary focus of this role. The UX Designer will play a key role in conducting user research, usability testing, and comparative and competitive analysis to inform and create user-centered designs. The designer will work closely with users, analysts, software engineers, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of functional, visually appealing, and accessible interfaces that meet user needs and align with Stanford’s technological standards. This role will also involve utilizing Figma to create highlyinteractive prototypes that effectively communicate design solutions. This collaborative role will enhance the team’s vision to deliver high-quality, cohesive solutions to student services staff, faculty, and students who utilize SAS’s broad digital portfolio of systems, applications, websites, and services. The ideal candidate will be systems-oriented, technology savvy, user-centric, and comfortable integrating UI/UX designs for MAP which are informed by the multiple systems and products integrating with the application. May administer testing focus groups. + Contribute to the redesign of the My Academic Progress project by improving functionality, user experience, and interface design. + Support the design and functionality development of applications, ensuring alignment with user research. + Execute and administer user research protocols, understand or contribute to personas, identify required tasks and information flows for given systems. + Execute comparative and competitive analysis to identify best practices and opportunities for innovation. + Analyze testing results to refine designs and improve user experiences. + Assist with creating application designs and code to manifest the designs, or work with software engineers to develop them. + Use Figma to create highly interactive prototypes that effectively communicate design concepts and functionality to stakeholders. + Develop wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity designs using industry-standard tools. + Implement established information architecture and user interface designs for given systems. + Assist with the functionality and interface of applications. + Ensure compliance with Stanford’s online accessibility policies through implementing alternative technologies. + Contribute to and maintain documentation on design assumptions, application requirements and specifications, business logic, training materials, help text, and release notes. + Gather, monitor and report on metrics and user feedback for issues and opportunities for improvement; liaise with quality assurance and help desk specialists to identify defects in application functionality or design and create strategies for mitigation. + Assist with usability testing on applications during the development lifecycle; refine designs based on the results of testing. May administer testing focus groups. **To be successful in this role, you will bring:** + Bachelor's degree or combination of education and relevant experience. + Requires knowledge of computer system capabilities. + Hands-on design skills. + Experience in current Web technologies. + Understanding of HTML, CSS, wireframing tools and visual design software. + Knowledge of delivering mobile solutions, responsive design across platforms and devices. + Knowledge of WC3 (World Wide Web consortium) and related standards, including accessibility. + Skill in conducting user research, user testing, usability testing and analysis. + Skill in developing specifications and mockups using UI design tools and/or programming in web application languages. + Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise + Ability to document business scenarios or requirements and create mockups. + Proven problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically **In addition, preferred requirements include:** + Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, or a related field. + Excellent organizational skills, including an ability to support a wide variety of activities, define pitfalls, propose and implement effective solutions, and pivot between competing priorities. + Demonstrated ability to develop learning materials focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including experience designing and implementing learning solutions that promote DEI best practices. + Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify challenges in user interface and experience designs and implement creative solutions to overcome them. + Concrete understanding of design thinking strategies. + High level of energy, flexibility, and the ability to work independently. + Experience with Figma and other prototyping tools. + Experience with video editing software. + Experience with Collaborative Tools, such as Slack, Trello, MS Google Suite, and Figma/Miro. + Background in higher education. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The expected pay range for this position is $48.56 to $53.84 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
