USV Maintenance and Reliability Engineer

Job Description

Do you want to join our Geo-data revolution? Fugro’s global reach and unique know-how will put the world at your fingertips. Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.

About Us

We’ve launched our innovative Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) service line that leverages cutting-edge technology to minimize our carbon footprint and promote sustainability. Our USV team operates primarily from Aberdeen, supporting a variety of exciting projects across Europe and Africa.

The Role

We are seeking a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer who is responsible for the reliability and maintainability of the uncrewed vessels and their systems in order to advise on the best maintenance practices and equipment selections to improve vessel uptime and minimise vessel OPEX.

The role will ensure services are delivered in line with the Fugro USV Management system by managing the maintenance setup of assigned vessels, technically supporting the vessel technicians whilst they work onsite at port call periods and by providing overarching management of the computerised PMS system.

This role is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of vessels, making it a rewarding career for those with a strong technical background and leadership skills.

You will work closely with the vessels manager and survey asset engineer.  Collectively you will make a shore based operational support team who report to the Technical Manager responsible for four USVs with expected growth to eight by end 2028.

As a maintenance and reliability engineer you will have the opportunity to travel to FAT and commissioning sites to review and accept vessels delivered into the region. Occasional travel will also be required for site visits to support technicians, provide maintenance guidance and to oversee annual winter refits and equipment upgrades.

What does a Remote and Uncrewed career offer:

This role offers a unique opportunity to cross-train and expand your expertise with the latest technology. You will engage in diverse and groundbreaking projects, positioning yourself at the forefront of the industry's transition to remote and uncrewed technology. Benefit from extensive career and training opportunities both nationally and globally, all while enjoying a stable onshore working environment.

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a candidate with a strong technical marine background such as an existing Maintenance and Reliability Engineer, Electro-Technical Officer (ETO), Marine Engineer or similar. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in areas of electrical distribution networks, vessel engine control systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), generators, vessel steering and propulsion systems.  The USVs are generally less than 24m and certified under the MCA Workboat code at Cat 0 level.  Experience with workboats or vessels of similar machinery setup is advantageous.

Experience with logistical mobilisations, operating planned maintenance systems, updating fault logging systems, and ensuring adherence to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) systems is advantageous.

We recognise the value of diverse perspectives and are actively seeking candidates from a variety of backgrounds. We are particularly interested in individuals who can bring new perspectives to our team and contribute to our culture of inclusivity.

What we offer:

Fugro fosters a positive work environment and offers projects that will challenge and satisfy the most curious minds. We provide ample opportunities for personal and professional growth, encouraging you to bring your energy, enthusiasm, and innovative ideas. Join us to be part of a diverse, driven team that is leading the way in Geo-data specialisation.

We offer extensive training and career development opportunities both nationally and internationally, a competitive salary with an attractive compensation package including a contributory pension scheme, private medical cover, life insurance and the option to lease an electric car.

Bring your passion and curiosity to Fugro and help us revolutionise the way we understand and interact with our planet.
