Overview The Utility Arborist is responsible for managing the distribution line clearance program, including patrolling distribution circuits and prescribing work to be performed by tree contractors, and conducting field audits and documenting results, and determining when the next trim is required. The Utility Arborist shall maintain a positive working relationship with tree contractor in the assigned area and ensure tree crews’ compliance with all company safety rules and applicable laws and regulations for worker and public safety, in addition to responsibility for timely resolution of customer complaints. TRC is hiring multiple Utility Arborist (ISA Certified) to be based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with responsibilities supporting projects across various locations on the island. Responsibilities Review and verify Field Contractor assessments. Develop work order packages to issue to Field Contractor. Respond to Field Contractor questions concerning work specification and requirements. Inspect work completed by Field Contractors for compliance with utility specifications. Assist in the management of Field Contractors during storm restoration operations. Understand and follow all safety rules and procedures. Perform job site inspections and safety observations on Field Contractor. Notify property owners of tree pruning and tree/brush removal work to be performed relating to the specification, mapping circuits. Manage internal/external customer requests. Perform outage investigations and, when necessary, obtaining permits from public agencies, and document work using a hand-held computer or smartphone. Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements, laws and regulations, and applicable labor agreements. Required to use computers and associated software, enter data into and process data from hand-held devices. Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements, laws and regulations, and applicable labor agreements. Maintain a positive working relationship with tree contractor in the Arborist/CUF's assigned area and ensure tree crews’ compliance with all company safety rules and applicable laws and regulations for worker and public safety. Handle timely resolution of customer complaints. On occasion, may be required to participate in public presentations and meetings. Participate in public presentations and meetings. Abide by Company policies and procedures. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, Horticulture or related field. Familiarity with Electric Transmission and Distribution Systems or Utility Vegetation Management ability to learn utility infrastructure. 1-2 years’ work experience in the field preferred. Possess an ISA Arborist Certification Must have a valid driver license. Ability to learn local tree species and growth rates. Ability to read and follow GIS data and maps. Excellent written and oral communication. Excellent organizational skills and attention to data requirements and technical detail. Proficiency with electronic devices and systems, such as mobile devices, GIS programs, MS Excel/Word. Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather. Availability and willingness to travel during the week. Ability to obtain relevant pesticide license. First aid and CPR. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
