Utility Designer

We are hiring for an experienced CAD Technician to join our team on a full-time, direct basis as a Utility Designer at our office in Columbia, MD.  This person will be expected to contribute primarily to our utility projects by performing critical design & drafting functions; this involves supporting major clients such as BGE and Verizon!

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform design / CAD drafting work to assist with Engineering projects. Assist with obtaining relevant field data & measurements. Utilize relevant data when creating / adjusting workable construction blueprints. Ensure scheduling and productivity objectives are achieved. Perform field work on an as-needed basis; this person will be expected to work indoors as well as outdoors. Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.

 

 

Basic Requirements:

High School Diploma (or equivalent). 3+ years of professional experience working with Design and/or Drafting.

 

This person may be expected to work in the field, as-needed, so they will be required to possess a Valid Driver’s License and Reliable Transportation.  Additionally, this role will require passing a Background Check and Drug Test without issue.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Design Technology, or a related technical field of study is a plus (recent graduates are encouraged to apply)! Experience working on dry utility projects (e.g.:  electrical power distribution, etc.) Proficiency with engineering / CADD tools, especially AutoCAD; experience with Bentley MicroStation is a plus (but we are willing to train individuals who are willing to learn)! Proficiency on standard Microsoft Office software applications. Proven ability to utilize technical mathematics. Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Proven ability to work in a self-motivated manner while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written); proven active-listening skills is a plus!
