Utility Operations Supervisor - Utilities

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and three years of related experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and/or instrumentation

 

Job Summary:

Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the process work groups on a 24/7, 12-hour shift team. Has responsibility for supervising operations of the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, production, distribution of chilled water, heating hot water and steam through the campus system, and energy management systems. Responsible for directing the efforts of specially, skilled craftsmen in the operation, maintenance of high-pressure boilers, combustion turbines, steam turbines, high voltage switchgear, emergency generators, operates equipment to meet emissions requirements, and repair of specialized equipment and systems of UTMB. Clearly communicates operational plans and activities during shift change and coordination meetings.

 

Job Duties:

Monitors the performance of personnel to achieve optimum safety, reliability, efficiency, and condition-based maintenance of the facilities. Develops and provides input on the daily equipment operating plan and provides feedback with changes to the plan. Keeps current on and recommends changes to operating procedures, new equipment, and related systems. Monitors the collection, review, and approval of log sheets and other pertinent data of the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant(s), Maximo Work Orders with approved enterprise software packages. Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment, personnel activities, and plant facilities as necessary. Troubleshoot system problems, which require following detailed operational and maintenance procedures and reading system schematics or as-built system engineering drawings (DWGs) Supervises compliance with standards of workmanship and safety. Completes expenditure projections and project plans for fiscal year planning. Diagnoses critical and complex system problems, coordinates the activities of contractors for repairs, and takes proactive steps to prevent reoccurrence. Develops System operating standards, for critical operation of generation equipment. Stays up to date with national standards and codes associated with District energy plant operations Performs related duties as required. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure

 

Working Environment/Equipment:

Standard office environment and equipment. Occasional exposure to a construction environment. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards typical to central plants, and utility distribution systems. Required to carry a cell phone. May be required to work extended shifts.

 

Salary Range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

 

Work Schedule:

Shift schedule - rotating nights, weekends, and holidays.
