Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Klingerstown, Pennyslvania known for their ice cream socials at Klingerstown Lutheran Parish, fishing rodeo, and fireman's parade. Responsibilities Second Shift $19.50 / Hour + $1.50 Shift Differential This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability The purpose of the Utility Person is to perform quality checks on a specified line, ensuring that all product that is packed meets customer specification before it is packed into cases and shipped to the customer and to help provide coverage on that line. This person helps to ensure that all personnel on their lines are following company GMP’s and only packing acceptable product. This person is proficient in all positions and tasks in the department. Qualifications DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Ensures regulatory compliance at all times. Must have the ability to pack product at any one of 5 lines or at the ovens in the Cooked Department. The utility person must do weight/quality checks, metal detector checks and corresponding computer and/or paperwork and enter data in the RedZone Compliance Module. Must have the ability to perform morning start up line checks & perform shut-down procedures. Must be proficient at all machine set up and troubleshooting in the packaging area including tape machines and box maker. Must assist in break and lunch coverage as needed. Must have the ability to determine if product meets proper specifications or not and inform supervisor or take corrective action as needed. Must have the ability to coach line workers on acceptable versus unacceptable product, helping to ensure that all product that is packable is put into finished cases, helping to reduce shrink. Must have the ability to perform daily and weekly Autonomous Maintenance line walks, recording motor temperatures and vibrations, basic troubleshooting is required. All findings are recorded in the iPad. Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained in order to maintain SQF Level 3 certification. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Must have good verbal and communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Must be a self-motivated individual who can work with a minimal amount of supervision Must have good knowledge of the Cooked Department with up to 6 months experience in that department or the equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties. Must have the ability to safely lift up to 30lbs. Must have the ability to work indoors in a damp changing environment for duration of the shift Ability to travel stairs. Ability to learn and understand cross contamination issues and how to avoid them. Must wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job Must know customer specifications. Must have the ability to retain knowledge for future use.
