Essential Functions
• Performs various tasks involving water utilities maintenance projects; locates service connections and breaks; installs, repairs, or replaces valves; disassembles, maintains and paints pumps, motors, pipes, and hydrants; performs preventive maintenance on equipment; assembles and repairs backflow devices; assembles bacteriological sample stations; conducts cross-connection control inspections of customers; repairs or replaces sustaining, regulation, and pressure reducing valves.
• Responds to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for oncall duty; repairs main/service breaks; evaluates service calls, determines amount of water loss, and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; determines need to request location of utility services; flushes systems after repairs; requests bacteria samples from laboratory.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include a utility truck/vehicle, trailer, backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, bobcat, forklift, all-terrain vehicle, tractor, chipper, sweeper, air conditioner, motors, pumps, air compressor, generator, jackhammer, pressure washer, grinder, drill, drill press, saw, circular saw, chain saw, concrete saw, welder, sprayer, hand compactor, stump grinder, vacuum cleaner, handheld meter reading device, ground penetrating radar, pipe locator, metal locator, electronic locator, marker locator, jet-vacuum machine, probe, valve key, shovel, rake, pick, machete, post hole digger, level, ladder, gauges, meters, measuring devices, camera, carpentry tools, plumbing tools, electrician tools, painting tools, mechanic tools, power tools, hand tools, or two-way radio.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning project work areas, or cleaning shop; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
• Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects; transports crew workers to/from work sites.
• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED* required.
• One (1) year of related experience.
• Fingerprinting Required.
*General Educational Development (GEDs) must be issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED Administrator. For Florida, the approved GED Administrator would be the Florida Department of Education (public schools or adult education centers).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
• Must complete the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly certification within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess a valid Class 3 Water Distribution Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain IMSA Work Zone Safety certification, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Traffic Safety in the Work Area certification within twelve (12) months of hire.

+ Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
+ Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
