Utility Technician (HVAC)
Shift: This role is 1st Shift, with various start times-various end times

Hourly Rate: $29.12 an hour

Conagra Brands is looking for a Utility (HVAC) Technician at the Fort Madison, IA manufacturing plant. Conagra offers you a starting wage of $29.12 per hour with a targeted standard wage of $30.95 per hour and shift differentials of $0.45 for 2nd shift and $1.00 for 3rd shift. You will manage the daily troubleshooting and preventative care of the plants utility equipment and devices. You will also participate in the facilities/maintenance work systems through teamwork and leadership. You will report to the Maintenance Manager and work a rotating swing shift.

You Will:

Demonstrate the ability to understand how electrical theory applies to heating and air conditioning.

Understand the operation of a heating and air conditioning system.

Troubleshoot, install and repair plant refrigeration equipment.

Understand the components, principles and operation of the refrigeration cycle.

Use air properties and load calculations for troubleshooting air conditioning systems.

Demonstrate the ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair plant heating equipment.

Troubleshoot combustion and electrical problems in fossil fuel equipment.

Understand the theories and principles of heat pumps and condensing furnaces.

Understand the principles, compressor components and operation of commercial HVAC equipment.

Explain capacity control, methods of unloading and principles of electronic air cleaning.

Understand the operation and components of domestic refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers.

Troubleshoot and repair domestic refrigeration equipment.

Operate the sludge plant in the following areas: intake primary treatment, aeration, secondary clarifier, waste and return sludge, NPDES permit requirements, bench tests and effluent to waste stream.

Perform water testing in the following areas: free chlorine, conductivity, PH, turbidity MLSS, TSS, dissolved oxygen and settled solids.

Understand the flow of the drain distribution in the following areas: PWW, process wastewater, sanitary wastewater, non-contact wastewater, storm system wastewater and roof drains.

Train and qualify in the following areas: redundant systems, confined space entry, respiratory qualifications, emergency responder training and hazardous chemical training.

Perform general maintenance of the following wastewater equipment; pumps, meters, piping, control systems, monitoring systems, chart recorders, automated samplers, automated monitors, aeration system and rotary screening.

Understand the biology of activated sludge within the following areas: system upset cause, microorganism’s life cycles, nutrient requirements, and oxygen requirement.

Demonstrate the ability to operate hydronic systems. Demonstrate the ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair the plants hot water system.

Understand the theory and principles of fire tube and water tube boilers.

Operate, troubleshoot, and repair the plants boilers.

Understand code stamps, symbols, and jurisdictional summaries within the following areas. ASME, MBBI, NBIC, MFPA, and CSD-1.

Apply codes and standards to help operate, troubleshooting, and repairing plant boiler and hot water systems.

Operate the boilers within the safety parameters.

Demonstrate the ability to understand the operating and safety controls on the boiler ignition systems.

Understand the boiler combustion system and controls.

Understand the purpose and techniques of water treatment in a boiler.

Perform the following test and procedures; PH, dissolved solids, dissolved, gases, Alkalinity, and treatment needs.

Perform boiler blowdowns.

Operate the Cold Lime Contra-flow.

Operate and test ground water systems.

Perform water testing.

Understand the chemistry of water treatment.

Understand the cold-water distribution systems.

Work in a team environment

Develop and lead training through one-point lessons and troubleshooting guides.

Have written and verbal communication skills.

Schedule and plan work through the planning team.

Plan and complete project work.

Provide technical leadership within their skill area.

Use knowledge and skills to create and implement continuous improvements on equipment.
