As a Utility Technician - Fire Protection at U. S. Steel, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and facilities. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities, from responding to emergencies to maintaining and inspecting firefighting equipment. We are looking for a dedicated individual who is passionate about safety and has the physical capability to handle demanding tasks. Key Responsibilities: + Respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies. + Safely operate fire apparatus and other equipment. + Inspect, clean, service, test, repair, maintain, and install firefighting equipment, fire control systems, and emergency medical equipment. + Render first aid to the sick and injured. + Demonstrate firefighting techniques and conduct inspections for fire hazards. + Frequently lift and/or move heavy tools and equipment. + Carry (over the shoulder) or drag victims out of buildings, and assist in lifting patients onto a stretcher. + Perform tasks that may require sitting, climbing at tall heights, balancing, stooping, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. + Remain in good physical condition and meet departmental standards concerning fitness. + Administer the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility. + Wear proper breathing apparatus as required. + Perform tasks supporting various producing units using basic hand tools, pneumatic equipment, gauges, oxygen lances, power actuated tools, and torches. + Handle, transport, and process products and materials. + Work with and around materials that may be hot, heavy, sharp, and hazardous chemicals. + Work in various areas of the plant, which may involve hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy environmental conditions. Requirements: + High School Diploma or GED + Must have completed an approved Firefighter I & II program, must be currently certified as EMT – Basic or Paramedic in Minnesota) + Must possess a valid Driver’s License. + Successful candidates must have the ability to demonstrate firefighting, rescue and emergency medical techniques, including the operation of firefighting equipment. + National Registry for EMT certification + The position requires rotating 8-hour shift work, which will include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. + The position requires overtime work as needed. + Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines always.
