Utility Technician (New Hire)
Fairfield Tubular Steel Operations is in need of a Charge Crane Operator to operate the Electric Arc Furnace ("EAF") bay overhead cranes in support of all EAF activities. The Charge Crane is a remote overhead crane used to charge scrap into the EAF.  Charge Crane Operator is a function within the Utility Technician position which is an entry level position and a core component for our workforce as one the of world’s largest steel producers. 

Job Responsibilities:Ensure Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements are followed and a priority.Complete all monthly safety requirements as laid out by the Safety DepartmentCapable of running overhead crane remotely in a safe manner.Ensure good housekeeping practices are carried out in job area and grounds.Safely and efficiently charge scrap into the EAF by positioning the bucket over the EAF and opening itSupport other departments as needed to strengthen U.S. Steel’s profitability and continual improvement efforts.Assist with maintenance repairs.Ensure EAF maintains appropriate supply of stock to operate during shift.  This includes but is not limited to EAF gunning machines, bank and bottom slinger, electrodes, tap hole sand, ladle sand, and other necessary materials for the proper operation of the EAF.Ability to change electrodesProvide crane assistance for all tasks associated with swapping EAF during shell exchangesProvide overhead crane assistance during abnormal conditions such as side wall panel exchanges, delta exchanges, or in assistance of Maintenance during non-routine tasksPerform routine and preventive maintenance and assist maintenance personnel as needed.Follow all safety and emergency procedures as applicable.Wear all PPE as required by procedure and knowledge of any abnormal area risks.  This will include “silvers” during EAF operation.Relieves other employees for breaks and call offs as qualified.
Requirements: High School Diploma or GEDRemote overhead crane experience. The position requires rotating 8-hour shift work, which will include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.The position requires overtime work as needed.Adherence to safety procedures/guidelines always. Safety is our core value which requires you to wear safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, boots with metatarsal protection, and when necessary, respirator equipment.The position requires punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction for the success of the operations.Must pass a pre-employment digital assessment.
