Job Description:

The Utilization Coordinator works under the supervisor of Case Management to provide utilization coordination for all admissions of every age group and population served at FMC. Communicates and works with other departments within the system to ensure compliance with regulations for status orders. Assists in educational programs for staff development, participates in implementing effective protocols and changes that impact quality care, and functions to promote financial optimization.

Screen all admissions for medical necessity. Performs utilization review to determine severity of illness and intensity of service. Determine recommendation of patient status using clinical information and medical record. Provides excellent customer service to physicians, staff, and patients. Provides timely feedback to referral sources and internal personnel facilitating patient admission. Demonstrates excellent nurse/physician communication skills. Ensures optimum utilization of hospital services, appropriate level of care, and documents in established system program. Collaborates with Physician Advisor to remove barriers to patient access and / or to facilitate patient throughout within the Center. Serves as a resource person for members of the healthcare team, including interpretation and understanding of status determination guidelines.
