UVA |Northern Virginia Summer Programming Instructor Job Description (Staff Wage and Student Wage)

Overview 

UVA|Northern Virginia is hosting its Summer Programming in Northern Virginia during Summer 2025. This program is for high school students (rising 10-12 grade) and will run Summer 2025. It bridges the gap between curriculum and interest-based learning and will offer both in-person (Fairfax, VA) and online programming. We are looking for a Forensic Science Instructor to teach 1–2-week courses in Northern Virginia or online. Instructors are responsible for designing a curriculum grounded in learning objectives, developing a syllabus, and delivering instruction. 

 

This position is open to UVA graduate students and faculty. Undergraduate students who have completed their 3rd year by June 2025 may also apply. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Provide an exceptional classroom experience for learners (academic, interactive, equitable, and thoughtful) 

Create a robust syllabus with measurable learning outcomes, to include both content-based outcomes and soft skill outcomes.  

Attend workshops and check-ins prior to the start of instruction  

 

Time Commitment 

Course Design, which includes up to five 1:1 check-ins with UVA | Northern Virginia program staff  

Course time, including prep time before and after program.  

In-person courses run 9am – 4pm. The instructor should plan to be in the classroom 30 minutes before the start of class.  

Online courses will include 2-hour synchronous sessions midday and asynchronous work time. In addition, instructors will dedicate 2 hours a day to office hours or 1:1 student consultation. 

 

Compensation 

2 Week Courses (In-Person) – $4,000 

Course Design $1000 Teaching $3000 

1 Week Courses (In-Person) – $2,500 

Course Design $1000 Teaching $1500 

1 Week Course (Online) - $2000 

Course Design $1000 Teaching $1000 

 

Pending availability, Instructors can teach more than one course or session. A course design fee is only paid for the first session of a course. Instructors will be paid $1500/week for each additional session of the same in-person course and $1000/week for each additional session of the same online course. Breakfast and lunch are provided for in-person courses. Housing is not provided.
