UX Researcher I

The UX Research (UXR) Team leads critical research efforts at Smartsheet. Our goal is to empower our Product Design partners with the insights they need to make well-informed design decisions. We also use our insights and perspective to inform cross-functional product development and alignment. We're a highly motivated, detail-oriented group with a passion for products, people, and bigger-picture insights.

Researchers at Smartsheet come from a diverse range of traditional and non-traditional backgrounds. We apply a wide range of research methodologies, human-centered design practices, and principles of human cognition to create engaging, valuable, and intuitive user experiences for our customers. As a member of the User Experience team, you'll shape the future of work.

This full-time position reports to the UX Manager and can be located in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

Conduct & support research projects from end-to-end within a product area, with supervision and guidance. Distill research data into insights and actionable recommendations that impact features and product teams. Present research findings and represent user insights effectively to working teams and stakeholders, including UX designers, product managers, and engineers. Apply appropriate evaluative research methods to answer product and design questions, with direction. Manage all stages of the research process, with guidance, including plan development, recruiting coordination, execution, synthesis, and reporting. Actively learn about Smartsheet's business, product, and user needs, leveraging this knowledge to inform your research and collaborations. Align immediate research tasks and project planning with overarching business goals and product area objectives. Seek out feedback and mentorship from more experienced researchers to continuously improve your research craft. Take ownership and accountability for your assigned work, following through on commitments and timelines. Build trust with team members and stakeholders through responsiveness, timeliness, and by involving partners in the research process. Support other duties as needed.

You Have:

Less than 3 years of experience in UX research or a related field. Familiarity with various UX research methodologies, particularly evaluative methods such as usability testing, interviews, and surveys. An understanding of basic user needs for specific product areas and the ability to use this knowledge to propose and inform research studies. Basic understanding of overarching business goals and primary objectives of product areas. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and authentically. The ability to receive and respond to feedback constructively and with an open mind. A self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative team player mindset. Curiosity about the world of design and product development. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Journalism, Anthropology, Communication, Design, etc.) or equivalent practical experience. Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an ongoing basis.
