Position Summary:
Drives a heavy truck with a capacity greater than 26,000 GVW, usually relatively short distances, then arrives to a Sunoco facility piping site and uses the vacuum features of the truck to empty small containers of crude products. The position requires consistent incorporation of the company’s safety initiatives into daily tasks.
Major Accountabilities:
• Drive truck equipped with different trailer combinations, but the primary vehicle will be the straight bed vacuum truck.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel for vehicle prior to operation.
• Perform daily electronic pre/post trip equipment inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of various types of heavy equipment.
• Ability to calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combo to stay within DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines.
• Responsible for safe loading and unloading products within the tank of the truck.
• Must have the ability to safely secure your loaded truck.
• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
• Responsible for safely driving the truck to various job sites by means of highways, rural unpaved county and private roads, busy and congested roads within city limits.
• Ensure the equipment being transported comply with DOT regulations.
• Safely operate the vacuum unit of the truck to safely transfer product to and from the tank on the truck.
• All actions taken are to safely assure no vehicle accidents or incidents and for your personal safety and those around your activities.
• Additionally, all of your actions taken are to assure there is no product spilled to the ground during the product transfer operations, but in the event a spill does occur the prompt response to clean-up the spill and report the event to your supervisor is expected.
• Responsible for notifying supervisor if vehicle needs to be repaired
• Experience with airbrakes and standard transmission.
• Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts to include hole and fire watch, pipeline construction and facility maintenance.
Education Requirements:
• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current CDL driver’s license required
• DOT HAZMAT
• Must be at least 21 years of age
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in vacuum truck service
• Current medical examiners certificate (FMCSR part 391.41)
• Knowledge of all USDOT & FMCSA safety and cargo securement rules and regulations
• Able to workday or night shifts as required.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and carry at least 30 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
• Manual dexterity to handle the vacuum hose and the controls on the vacuum and pump equipment, and also to secure cargo utilizing chains and load binding devices on equipment
• Overnight travel may be periodically required.
