Qualifications:

Required:

BSNCurrent New Jersey licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse in good standing required.Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

Preferred:

Strong cardiac backgroundTransplant experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsementBLS from the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

Day Shift, 8:30a - 4:30pFull-Time, 37.5 hoursMonday Friday

Essential Functions:

Provide patients with a thorough nursing assessment and review of system as part of medical records during outpatient visitsPatients and families with VAD specific education, as well as general education to promote patients to assume self-care after VAD insertionPerform routine rounds on inpatients to ensure patient s care meets standards. This can be done by inspecting the patient's surgical wounds, assessing patient weight, ambulation etc.Assists perfusionists with set up of new implants in the OR. Maintain presence for all surgical cases to provide assistance or troubleshooting as necessaryCommunicate with multidisciplinary team/consultants to ensure comprehensive care and discharge planningProvide support to inpatient nurses by working closely with them on inpatient care to promote knowledge of VAD patient careChart documentation per hospital guidelines and policyDeliver necessary equipment to any location within the hospital as needed for patient safetyCollaborates with research staff to ensure all necessary information is communicated for reporting to the proper bodyParticipate in the QA process by collecting necessary data and participating in meetingsFollow up on all patient phone calls for inquiries in a timely mannerEnsure compliance with clinical, research and administrative policy and proceduresInput patient data into Intermacs database as required by CMS thoroughlyProvide patients with a thorough nursing assessment and review of system as part of medical records during outpatient visits

Other Duties:

Provide clinical expertise to all hospital departments on the use of VADs, care of the patient and patient management. Provide day to day patient management to ensure quality care and mentor inpatient nurses in the care of this patient population. Work with nursing education to provide annual refresher education and competence. Manage patients in the outpatient setting. Work with health care providers in patients local community to recognize the device and how to provide basic support. Collaborate with research staff to ensure all protocols are followed. Work with the Administrative Director to ensure patient care and program policies meet or exceed regulatory expectations at all times
