Recognized for excellence in clinical training, world-class research initiatives, and a commitment to community service, we serve labs and medical facilities both nationally and internationally. **POSITION HIGHLIGHTS** + Vacation time and sick time off that accrues monthly, including 12 paid holidays + Fully subsidized public transit pass (U-PASS) that covers multiple forms of public transportation in the region + Excellent healthcare, dental, disability, and retirement plan options + Lots of free fitness, healthy eating, finance, and stress reduction classes offered through the Whole U + State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities + Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program as a UW employee + Relocation incentive for eligible new employees **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** Data Analysis: + Perform genomic data analysis, review, and variant interpretation for molecular testing and assist lab directors with reporting of test results for various genetics and cancer diagnostic assays (e.g. Exome sequencing and OncoPlex) + Participate in trainings and demonstrate competency according to laboratory and CAP/CLIA requirements. + Review patient medical history and summarize clinical histories pertinent for data analysis. + Write patient reports for review by genetics, neurology, and other healthcare specialty clients. + Review research genetics testing results, provide interpretation, and develop novel methods and techniques to analyze data. + Perform run building and billing basics for genetics and cancer diagnostics assays. + Perform defined specialty procedures or provide specialty skills requiring in-depth knowledge and experience.Development and Maintenance: + Develop, maintain and perform periodic review of an active knowledgebase for variant analysis and interpretation. + Develop expertise in interpreting genetic data from literature, open source and proprietary analysis software and databases. + Design tools to assist in more efficient variant review for the variant review scientist and affiliated faculty. + Assist in developing procedures for genomic analysis and interpretation and guidelines for troubleshooting issues. + Train and support new employees, residents, fellows and other trainees on rotation through the department.Scholarly Activities: + Responsible for extensive literature review and provide consult, input and collaborates in interdepartmental journal clubs for ongoing education. + Responsible to generate, develop, and provide data at client meetings and conferences, when required.Staff Support and Knowledge Base Consultant: + Act as a consultant to variant review scientist(s) and other members of Clinical genomics analysis (CGA) team such as genetic counselors, student/genetic counseling assistants.Organize and schedule in-service for staff; maintain records of staff training. + At the direction of the VRS lead and Genomic Analysis Manager, schedule orientation and training of new employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, students, and other health care professionals; prepare teaching materials; submit written evaluation of students. + Manage Inventory and submit supply orders for approval. + Support internal and external training including but not limited to new hire training, new and existing tools/systems, data analysis and variant science concepts. + Serve as an expert for run building, billing and other internal processes pertinent to the assay assigned. + Ability to be a consultant for high complexity cases for both directors and clinicians utilizing various assays. + Understand related billing and have the ability to consult and train others on billing and insurance related activities to ensure reimbursement, comprehensive testing and reducing financial burden on patients. **REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS** + Master’s Degree in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline. + At least five years’ experience in genomic analysis or clinical genetics; minimum 2 years to 3 years as a Variant Review Scientist. + Experience with next-generation sequencing methods and data analysis. + Strong teamwork, interpersonal and organizational skills. + Demonstrated ability to rapidly distill concise and succinct summaries from complex and potentially contradictory literature sources. + Must be comfortable using a variety of computational databases to aid in the interpretation of genomic variants. + Ability to work independently, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Documented successful history of training residents, fellows, and other trainees. + Documented successful history of performing complex problem resolution. + Documented successful history of successfully participating in division, departmental, or organizational projects. **ABOUT UW MEDICINE – WHERE YOUR IMPACT GOES FURTHER** UW Medicine is Washington’s only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center.
