Overview

The Vascular Access Clinical Lead position is an exciting opportunity to help support and grow CarePartners’ Provincial Infusion Therapy and Vascular Access program. The VA Clinical Lead will be integral in implementing technology using ultrasound guidance (USG) to place peripheral intravenous catheters in the home and community care setting. The position will be responsible for developing and delivering educational material and mentoring nurses using USG to place vascular access devices to support competency development.

Advances Vascular Access Program, Standards of Care and Professional Practice Leadership

Accountable for educating, mentoring and coaching new learners in using Ultrasound Guidance (USG) to place Peripheral Intravenous Catheters (PIVC) at local branches across Ontario.Provide independent, high-quality care through educating and supporting nurses to use USG to insert PIVC. Champion evidence-based practices for vascular access care and management, including the use of ultrasound guidance, to support high-quality care for patients requiring vascular access. Adhere to the National Standards of Practice set out by the Infusion Nursing Society, the Association for Vascular Access, and the Canadian Vascular Access Association. Follow CarePartners policy and procedures for placing and managing vascular access devices (VADs).

Build Capacity and Knowledge Mobilization

 

Responsible for developing and delivering education outlined to support the implementation and use of ultrasound machines to place PIVC.Mentor and coach nurses at branches across the province and collaborate with local clinical practice leads and nurse managers to support the nurse. Act as a clinical preceptor who coaches and mentors’ nurses in placing PIVC using US guidance and following with the care and management of the VAD.Provide input and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives (process improvements, efficiency, etc.) relating to VAD insertion. Evaluate learners’ progress using various methods of evaluationSupport nurses (in the home or clinic), during their ‘on call’ coverage, as needed during regular hours, after hours or weekends.   What You Bring Regulated Nurse or Registered Practical NurseCurrent College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) registration in good standing2 years of recent clinical experience, including proficiency in using ultrasound guidance to place peripheral intravenous catheters, midlines and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). Certified with the Canadian Vascular Access Association or Infusion Nursing Society or The Association for Vascular Access (AVA) is an asset. Proven clinical experience in providing high-quality clinical care, strong assessment skills, critical thinking and problem-solvingProven experience leading and mentoring people delivering community care is an assetAbility to travel within Ontario to support the project by mentoring and coaching new learners. Keen attention to detail, ability to prioritize, multi-tasking skills and organizational skills.Strong proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft OfficeStrong analytical skillsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work collaboratively and effectively in both a team environment and independently; in person and remotelyDemonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential informationExperience within home and community care is an assetKnowledge of adult learning principles and teaching is an assetA valid driver’s license and vehicle as regular travel is requiredA clear background check CarePartners In Your Community
