Summary:
The Vascular Access IV Tech provides patient care within the IV Tech role. The IV Tech is responsible for performing line management functions appropriately and in a timely manner for the assigned area as delegated by the Vascular Access Department RN. The IV Tech plans and organizes workload and displays good time management skills and helps the team with difficult Peripheral IV access requests. Assists with PICC/CVC insertion procedures as directed by the supervising RN, including assisting with a procedure “Time Out”. The IV Tech will perform difficult lab draws as needed when the phlebotomist is unable to obtain a sample. The IV Tech is responsible for reporting signs of infection, infiltration and phlebitis to the supervising RN.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis. Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of the organization.
+ Inserts peripheral IV catheters with and without ultrasound guidance
+ IV flushes with normal saline
+ Dressing Changes
+ IV site evaluation and documentation
+ Time Out procedures
+ Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
+ Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School Education and/or completion of a military corpsman training course with a concentration in IV therapy insertion/phlebotomy or completion of a phlebotomy tech training program or paramedic training program
Preferred Education: Associate Degree
Preferred Experience: Two years phlebotomy experience, paramedic, or military medic/corpsman
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current BLS certification required upon hire
