This position requires competent vascular assessment with ultrasound to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disease. The technologist must be able to detect vascular pathologies and to discern which images should be included in the preliminary report for the interpreting physician. Patient populations examined are adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Responsibilities

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES (other duties may be assigned)
1 Able to assess vascular function with ultrasound and is able to judge if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes for the preliminary report.
2 Conducts history and physical prior to ultrasound exam.
3 Is able to create a preliminary report on the RIS (Radiology Information System), HRM and archive images on PACS (Picture Archival Computerized System).
4 Reports and documents critical values per policy and procedure.
5 Performs venous ultrasound exams to determine valve competency, deep venous thrombosis (DVT), arterial-venous (A-V) malformation and superficial thrombophlebitis.
6 Performs carotid ultrasound exams determining a normal exam versus stenosis, occlusion, dissection, and fibromuscular hyperplasia.
7 Performs arterial imaging determining stenosis, aneurysm, pseudo-aneurysm, AV malformations.
8 Evaluates bypass grafts and stents.
9 Ensures patient exam room is adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
10 Ensures preventive maintenance is performed prior to due date.
11 Ensures broken equipment is pulled from circulation and work order submitted to Biomedical Engineering for repair.
12 Ensures charge entry is accurate.
13 Enters required patient information in patient log before end of shift.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
● Must have completed an accredited vascular technician program.
EXPERIENCE:
● One year minimum experience in a hospital setting working as a vascular technician.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
● Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider.
● RVT credentials required.
OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
● Computer literate.
