Vehicle Dynamics Modeling Engineer

Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Dynamics Modeling Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and validating dynamic models for our electric vehicles. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including chassis, suspension, and control systems, to optimize vehicle performance and ensure a superior driving experience.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in vehicle dynamics modeling, preferably within the automotive industry. Proficiency in modeling and simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, CarSim, or similar tools. Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics principles, including suspension kinematics, tire dynamics, and control systems. Experience with multi-body dynamics and familiarity with electric vehicle powertrains is a plus. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with data analysis tools and methods, including signal processing and frequency analysis. Familiarity with electric powertrain components, including battery systems, motors, and regenerative braking. Prior experience with physical vehicle testing and model correlation techniques. Experience in vehicle subjective evaluation on public road and proving grounds Experience of real-time control system conceptualization, implementation and development a plus Knowledge of control theory and experience with controller development for vehicle dynamics applications.

Develop and refine vehicle dynamic models for performance analysis and simulation, including ride, handling, and stability. Collaborate with the chassis and suspension teams to integrate model-based development processes into vehicle design. Conduct simulations to assess vehicle response and optimize vehicle dynamics, including parameter tuning for electric powertrain integration. Support testing activities by correlating simulation results with real-world test data and refining models based on test feedback. Analyze vehicle performance data to identify potential improvements and inform design decisions. Work closely with control systems engineers to validate and enhance vehicle control algorithms. Document modeling processes, results, and recommendations for design modifications or improvements. Stay updated with the latest advancements in vehicle dynamics modeling, simulation tools, and electric vehicle technology.
