Vehicle Fleet Technician
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, MI, on a full-time basis (5 days each week).
The Role
As we move towards our ZERO ZERO ZERO vision for the future, we are looking to add hardworking individuals to our lab technician team! On this team, we contribute to that vision by supporting the development of groundbreaking electric and autonomous driving technology through building and maintaining sophisticated developmental vehicles and electrical test benches.
These fleets and benches allow for the early integration and verification of software at a vehicle system-level as part of the General Motors - Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP). This position supports the test and development of automotive electrical systems by constructing and supporting advanced electrical test benches and update/retrofit of vehicle test fleet electronics.
In this role as Technician, you will have the opportunity to manage most project responsibilities, rather than working on parts of a job. You will work in several departments where you will demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and learning abilities.
This position supports the test and development of automotive electrical systems by constructing and supporting advanced electrical test benches and update/retrofit of vehicle test fleet electronics.
What You’ll Do
Updating physical parts and change out parts – ECU (Electronic Control Units), Components
Expose trims and install parts.
Work on creating harnesses for instruments and automated testing.
Work with teams to resolve issues quickly and ensure vehicles are fully updated and operable.
Create and update the list of internal Fleet vehicles from reports for each program with quality.
Analyze reports to make sure that the status of vehicles are updated, and have the correct drivers assigned to them.
Understand VINs and vehicles that are under deviation and how to address them.
Write Nuvolo (software) Tickets.
Schedule meeting notices with the respective users/drivers for the reflash events.
Coordinate any roadblocks (working with CIEs/DREs/suppliers/contractors/residents etc.).
Updating reports once reflash events have been successfully completed.
Support pulling reports using fleet data collection tools.
Support and coordinate Reflash and OTA events for Captured Test Fleets
Utilize reports to create VIN lists.
Train entry level technicians.
Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Associate Degree in Automotive Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of experience as a technician in the automotive industry (wire harness, panel assembly, etc.) working on electrical-related parts and components.
Ability to read vehicle electrical schematics.
Ability to work on different tools set to access contents required for schematics/retrofit etc.
Experience supporting vehicle root cause.
Soldering skills (board level, connectors, and harnesses).
Knowledge of various automotive connectors, terminals, locks and crimping tools used by GM.
Proficient technical skills e.g., MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), SharePoint, Outlook.
Strong communication skills: including the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, both multi-functionally and cross-culturally.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
4+ years of experience as an electrical technician in the automotive industry (wire harness, panel assembly, etc.)
Understanding of Functional Safety/DVUL.
Ability to collect and read vehicle CAN data, Qualifier data, and Vehicle Telematics data.
Excellent problem-solving skills (DFSS / Red X certification).
Solid understanding of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
