Vehicle Performance Engineer

Role Overview: PDS Tech is seeking a Vehicle Performance Engineer to join our team in Santa Clarita, CA, working on cutting-edge vehicle dynamics and performance optimization for the Acura GTP program. In this role, you will optimize chassis setup, simulate vehicle behaviors, and collaborate with top engineers to fine-tune the most advanced racing vehicles. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Vehicle Dynamics Simulation: Simulate specific vehicle behaviors to optimize performance and contribute to the development of high-performance chassis systems. 

Performance Optimization: Work closely with technicians to fine-tune chassis setup parameters, ensuring peak vehicle performance on track. 

Data Analysis: Analyze logged vehicle dynamics sensor data and provide actionable insights for improving vehicle performance. 

Test Planning & Execution: Plan and execute tests of vehicles and chassis subsystems on physical test rigs, analyzing results to guide further development. 

Model Calibration & Correlation: Calibrate and correlate vehicle dynamics simulation models against real-world test data, ensuring accuracy and reliability. 

Collaborative Liaison: Work closely with technicians on build preparation, chassis hardware setup, and electronics systems engineers for sensor and data logging configuration. 

Software Development: Contribute to the design, maintenance, and development of simulation and analysis software, adhering to source control and software best practices. 

External Collaboration: Liaise with external suppliers on the development of chassis hardware systems to optimize performance. 

Reporting & Presentations: Regularly publish detailed reports on test results and performance metrics, and present findings in group meetings and engineering forums. 

Required Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Dynamics highly valued. 

Experience: Minimum 1 year of work experience in the professional motorsport industry (internships count toward this experience). 

Hands-On Experience: Experience in racing car operations and physical testing of vehicle hardware systems. 

Proficiency in MATLAB: Skilled in MATLAB programming for data processing, analysis, and simulation model development. 

Vehicle Dynamics Expertise: In-depth understanding of vehicle dynamics principles, including suspension, tire, and aerodynamic domains. 

Data Analysis Skills: Proficiency in time series analysis and frequency domain analysis of experiment data. 

Testing & Experimentation: Strong background in experiment design methods and statistical analysis of test data. 

Travel Requirement: Must be available to attend track events (races and tests) and participate in physical rig testing of race vehicles. 

Location: Initially based at the HRC-IN facility in Indianapolis with regular travel required for events. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience with simulation and analysis software development. 

Hands-on experience in race vehicle testing and optimization. 

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present technical findings to diverse teams.

Pay Details: $85,000.00 to $95,000.00 per year
