Venture Capital Co-op/Intern – Summer 2025

The Investment Co-op, Venture Capital role is an integral support function to Manulife Investment Management (MIM)'s Venture Capital team, as they assess new transactions, monitor portfolio companies, and track developments in targeted industries. The MIM Venture Capital team focuses on early and growth stage investments in North American-based, B2B SaaS (software-as-a-service) startups across enterprise software and fintech. This position will assist the Venture Capital team in industry research, assessment, valuation, and comprehensive due diligence of a wide variety of B2B technology startups. 

Position Responsibilities:

Collect analyst reports and conduct research on selected companies and industry sectors. Prepare industry reports identifying market and consumer trends, competitive landscape, key financial ratios, and performance measures for prospective investments. 

Meet with prospective startup portfolio companies and complete in-depth company due diligence. Assist in team assessment of potential investment opportunities. 

Assist in valuation analyses and financial modeling to support the analysis and diligence of prospective portfolio companies. 

Support completion of quarterly and annual reviews, risk ratings, and collateral valuations on all portfolio companies. 

Leverage engineering background, technology knowledge base, and/or prior experiences to assess software/SaaS companies for the quality of the underlying technology, appeal of its solution, and ability to scale and capture market share. 

Required Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Science. 

Prior internship(s) and experience in product roles at tech-based firms and startups, strategy and operations at tech firms/startups, investment banking, venture capital/private equity, and/or consulting. 

Strong interest in new technology and trends, early-stage startups, entrepreneurship, and investments. 

Strong quantitative skills (e.g., financial modeling, valuations analysis, ability to assess and understand financial statements). 

Strong written and communication skills - able to synthesize and articulate thoughts about companies and markets in a structured manner. 

Strong attention to detail. 

Highly motivated team player. 

Highly motivated self-starter, able to take initiative, prioritize, and run on own with limited guidance. 

Demonstrated project and time management skills in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
