BWXT is currently seeking a Verification Testing Manager for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

 

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven – be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT Advanced Technologies designs, develops and delivers innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for external and internal customers.

 

BWXT is seeking an experienced Verification Testing Manager to lead a team of Test Engineers responsible for Verification Testing across all Advanced Technologies (AT) Programs. The Verification Testing Manager will provide direct day-to-day technical leadership to the team of Test Engineers who are matrixed to support projects. Primary activities include planning and tracking of team member work assignments, working with the team to ensure effective execution of work, and overseeing delivery of work products that meet specified quality and technical requirements. The successful candidate should maintain a strong focus on developing team members and supporting their growth to achieve individual professional objectives. The successful candidate filling this role will also be expected to fulfill the role of Chief Test Engineer.

 

This position will be located at the Advanced Technologies office in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Job Description / Duties:

Build a supportive and collaborative team culture. Plan, direct, and coordinate the timely execution of assigned activities, which includes, but is not limited to, tracking assignments of team members, and setting task priorities. Ensure team members have the necessary resources to perform their assignments. Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable procedures and policies consistent with accepted engineering standards and specified requirements. Assist team members with technical problem solving. Facilitate resolution of matters that involve other disciplines/teams. Develop team members through training, mentoring, feedback, and work assignments. Work with team members to identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Build and maintain strong relationships across the Engineering organization and with other interfacing BWXT organizations and external partners/stakeholders. Monitor performance goals and provide feedback to team members.  Perform administrative responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, involvement in the hiring process, providing input for cost center budgets, and approval of time charging. Develop test plans and procedures for verification and validation testing. Develop test plans and procedures for integrated power plant system verification and validation testing. Analyze test data and evaluate if the executed tests met the objectives. Assist external customers and partners in the development of test plans and procedures for the execution of initial criticality and power operations. Assist in the development of plant operating procedures. Assist in the development of a training program for operators. Perform additional duties as required.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical or similar discipline) is required. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of demonstrated work experience in an engineering related field is required. Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated component and integrated system testing experience. Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in a leadership role with direct reports. Must have experience with disciplined operations. Must have experience working with and coordinating well with multiple intercompany organizations and disciplines. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to self-direct with minimal day-to-day supervision. Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship. If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications / Additional Desired Skillsets:

Supervisory, project engineering, or project management experience. Experience with reactor plant systems operations and testing. Experience with testing on new construction reactor plant systems. Experience with reactor plant startup testing including initial criticality. Active DOD or DOE Security Clearance. Familiarity with the requirements of quality programs such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and / or NQA-1. Experience working with US Government customers (e.g., DOE, DOD, NASA, National Labs).

 

 

Pay: $112,000.00 - $169,000.00

 

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $112,000.00 and $169,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
