Veteran Intern -Lead System Design Engineer - Powertrain System & Components (PE-S&C)

Volvo Group India is seeking exceptional defense veterans to join our dynamic GTT team. This unique opportunity offers a 9-month consulting assignment to gain in-depth knowledge of talent acquisition strategies and practices. The Powertrain System & Components (PE-S&C) team within Powertrain Engineering BLR is responsible for delivering Powertrain Electronic Systems and Components for the Truck & Bus brands within the Volvo Group Trucks Technology. 
 
System Engineering provides strong technical leadership for Powertrain Architecture, Requirements Management, Communication with Vehicles, and diagnostics strategies. These strategies are then detailed in system specifications, which support our platform objectives.
 
Job Summary

The Lead System Design Engineer with mechatronics competency works within the PE-S&C, responsible for designing and developing the PE E&E Control systems, Architecture, Functions, and technical roadmaps for the team. Will be responsible for Functional Safety ISO26262, Cyber Security ISO21434 and ASPICE ISO15504 implementation of Powertrain E&E system. Will be responsible for the deliveries from the initial stage to production and maintenance of the various products and ranges spanning across multiple sites in Medium-duty and Heavy-duty areas.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Project Lead responsible for complete E&E deliveries towards any project or product with good QDCF as per targets defined and ensuring robust and fully functioning PE-E&E systems on the vehicle. Design and develop complete control system design making roadmap updates, design specifications, translating customer requirements to technical descriptions with in-depth “technical” impact analysis at sub-system and HW and SW component level detailing with minimum support. Secure that pre-study/concept reports and project technical reports are written, reviewed, and released with excellent technical detailing, analysis, and adherence to set guidelines. Plan and monitor all system activities and deliverables in each assignment from the global system organization. To identify necessary system activities and deliverables considering all requirements. To do resource estimations for identified activities and to communicate these to Project teams after anchoring with line managers within the global organization. Planning, prioritization, and allocation of all activities within a given scope. Regularly follow up progress, problems, and open issues within the assignment and ensure that these are handled and communicated. To escalate issues that need support from the line or project management. Ensure strict adherence to the set design and development processes and guidelines. Experience in the development of  tools and frameworks in MATLAB, Python, etc for system engineering. You have a good understanding of the Software roadmaps, powertrain architecture, and diagnostic strategies. Represent Bangalore system engineering team in Global forums. Ensures all the cross-functional requirements are well incorporated into the design from the aftermarket, manufacturing, purchasing, and also other Powertrain product streams (base engine, combustion, EATS, etc.), certification needs, verification, and validation needs. Will be responsible for the complete Powertrain E&E integration activities within the project scope. Adeptly work with SW roadmap impacts, SWRS, SWTD, etc. Propose “continuous improvements” ideas within E&E systems technically and process-wise with and good vision for innovation. Building and maintaining very good networking with VECV, JV partners like UDT etc. also our global counterpart teams in multiple sites like Lyon, Gothenburg, Hagerstown etc. Customer mindset and player mindset are critical to ensure no issues are transferred to end customers Support Special Vehicles, Customer Adaptation, and Front Office in the area of Powertrain through cross-functional collaboration specifically for VECV, VBI, Volvo India, and Asia projects. Responsible for Functional Safety ISO26262, Cyber Security ISO21434 and ASPICE ISO15504 implementation of Powertrain E&E system. Lead and develop functional safety, cybersecurity protocols, and analysis from a system perspective using tools such as HARA(Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment), TARA(Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment), FTA(Fault Tree Analysis), DFA( Dependent Failure Analysis), FMEDA(Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostic Analysis), etc. Responsible for all quality tools implementation within E&E deliverables from the system point of view – Design reviews, DFMEA, SFMEA, RCAs, dependability analysis, Risk assessments, etc. Experience in Functional Safety Architectural Patterns, safety mechanisms, etc for the development of the PE E&E System. Mentor the team members of the best practices for PE-E&E System development.

Additional Information

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

BE/BTech/ME/MTech in Electrical/Electronics and Communication Engineering. Strong hands-on technical experience in Electrical/Electronic engineering and diagnostics. Expert in Systems engineering/Control systems. Strong truck application knowledge. Prior team/people management experience would be an added advantage. Good understanding of the Volvo Values and the Cultural dimensions. Excellent knowledge of the products and network in the company especially GTT Powertrain Engineering. Customer quality mindset and competence to guide the cross-functional team. Prior experience working with Joint ventures e.g. VECV, VBI etc. would be an advantage. Knowledge in Software, Functional development, Diagnostics, and System platform development.
